Geocache Description:

Village signs is a series of caches based on the ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (normally on the village green!).

The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably stated in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!

The following is taken from Wikipedia, St James, South Elmham is a village and civil parish in the Waveney district of Suffolk in eastern England. One of the Saints, in 2010 its population was 210 reducing to 205 at the 2011 Census.

The following is taken from HealthySuffolk.org.uk. St James, South Elmham is a parish in the ‘saints’ area of Waveney, south-east of Bungay. This particular parish is on the western edge of the area and therefore slightly more isolated.
The main village centres around the crossing of St James Lane and The Street. Here you’ll find the village hall and the majority of the residential properties. To the east of this is the parish church.
The north-west of the parish holds the St James Village Orchard, a community project started in 2009 that holds almost 100 trees of 16 varieties.

This is a simple 2 stage multi cache. At the posted co-ordinates you will find the village sign. What date was the sign unveiled?  Convert these numbers into ABCDEFG to find the final co-ordinates that are located a short walk away on a public footpath.

The cache can be found at

N52 22 (A+C) G B

E001 23 C (C-A) (C-A-D)

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
