Geocache Description:

The Bucks Fun Ramblers are a group of friends who share the common interest of walking in the Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire.  Every year they have a week's holiday together to explore somewhere different to Buckinghamshire.  They have been doing this since 2005 and have not missed a single year.  This year will be their 15th such holiday and they decided that it was time for a visit to Dartmoor.

Today’s adventure would be the most difficult and challenging of any of the previous days and was planned and led by the boys of the group, Charles and Jeremy. The walk took them into the depths of the North Dartmoor moor and they had to ensure that it was not one of the days when live firing occurred. In all they walked 12.3 miles, took 7 hours 50 minutes and found 23 caches.

In order to find the final cache of this series you will need to determine where else they visited and collect some information in 5 different locations. The following photos should be helpful.

  1. Beside you is a white number on a green background.  The last 4 digits are NNPP.  You will need NP to locate this final cache of the series.
  2. Turn around and you will see a granite plaque on the wall.  There are Q words on the plaque and the longest word has R characters.  You will need QR to locate this final cache of the series.
  3. Turnaround. You will see a hanging sign containing a telephone number.  The last 6 digits are 61STUT.  You will need STU to locate this final cache of the series.
  4. You entered through a wooden gate. Inscribed in the wood is the date 19VW. You will need VW to locate this final cache of the series.
  5. Turn to the left and high up on the adjacent building are two dates. The left hand date is 166X and the right hand date 16YZ  You will need XYZ to locate this final cache of the series.

You should now have enough information to find the final cache of this series:
N 50° 34.(A+W-T)(F+J-R)(C-Q-X) W 4° 02.(K+P-S-V)(H+L-Y)(M+N-D)

Please Note: This is a Military Training Area on which live firing and other pyrotechnics may be used. The area is generally open public access. One of the safety rules for public access is:- Do not, (and ensure that children do not) approach, touch or pick up any metal objects lying on the ground. Please obey all bylaws and locally posted information concerning times when the area may be closed. These may be physical barriers, marker posts, flags, lights or manned control posts.

The weather on Dartmoor can change suddenly and unexpectedly and ALL types of weather conditions can be experienced. Please ensure that you have the correct clothing and map & compass (and know how to use them). Please do NOT rely solely on your GPS.

I would like to thank the Dartmoor National Park Authority for their kind permission to place this cache, which has been placed according to the new geocaching guidelines.
