Some 'fun' facts about Donkeys to entertain you whilst you're there.

The wild ancestor of the donkey is the African wild ass.
Donkeys have been used as a working animal for at least 5000 years.
A male donkey or ass is called a jack, a female a jenny.
Jack donkeys are often used to mate with female horses to produce mules.
A stallion and jenny cross instead, is called a hinny.
A donkey is able to hear the call of another donkey up to 45 miles away, they have far larger ears than horses. Their large ears also help keep them cool.
Donkeys came to England with the Roman invasion of Britain in 43CE.
Donkeys have an incredible memory - they can recognise other donkeys they were with up to 25 years ago.

And now the Donkey Sanctuary has a Fine Pair - Things are looking up!

If anyone has a more interesting fact about Donkeys please post in your log. I might even add it to the page!
