The Church
St Mary the Virgin Church in the small hamlet of Kelly is a Grade 1 listed building and is lovingly maintained by a small group of local people.
The church largely dates from the 14th century but was extensively modified in the 18th and 19th Centuries. It contains a number of memorial plaques and stained glass windows dedicated to notable local residents, especially the ancestors of the Kelly family.
Services are held on an irregular basis due to the lack of an incumbent priest at the present time.
The hamlet gets its name from the Kelly family who have occupied the adjacent Kelly House continuously for over 900 years - one of the longest continual family occupations on record.
As you walk to the cache you will be able to see the rear of the house and the remarkable stable block in the yard behind it. The various buildings within the Kelly House boundary retain traces of Tudor, Georgian and Victorian modifications and, unsurprisingly, is a listed building.
It is believed that the Kelly name derives from an ancient Cornish word Kelli meaning grove or copse.

The headline coordinates will take you to a gravestone which is on your left just past the War memorial as you walk along the path from the gate towards the church porch.
The gravestone is in memory of:
William Perry who died on January AB th CDBE aged FG years
and also his wife Matilda who died on July AE th CDDA aged EA years.
