The Church
Bradstone is an ancient and small hamlet close to the River Tamar and the border between Devon and Cornwall.
The Church, dedicated to St Nonna , dates from the 12th century and is a Grade 1 listed building.
Since 1996 it has been in the care of the Church Conservation Trust. It has a nice vaulted ceiling and a few memorial stones set into the walls.
Outside the tower is a stone dedicated to John Coumbe, said to have lived from 1484 to 1604 - outliving the entire Tudor Dynasty.
The Church is usually open and is approached up a grass pathway between an avenue of yew trees. The square tower dates from the 15th century and still contains a set of bells which are rung by visiting bellringers.
Bradstone Manor Entrance Gate
Opposite the church is Bradstone Manor which is now a farm but the Jacobean entrance gateway is an amazing architectural structure which is presently used as a holiday let. The farm buildings have many examples of old structural techniques using granite columns. The farm is also a listed building.
The church and the hamlet are well worth a visit.
