Geocache Description:

Simple tradi with an astonishing view at the foot of the Lógmanúpur

Feel free to place a new logbook when it's full

The Lógmanúpur (''lonely peak'') is one of my three favorite mountains, in fact I feel so attracted to it that it feels as if I have been here in an other life before.

The Lógmanúpur is an almost 700 meters high palisade of cliffs that towers over Björninn Mountain, very close to the ringroad. It is a famous object for taking pictures. The best sides are the west side (the side of the tradi), and the south side, right in front of it (there are several small parkingplaces over there).

The cache is placed at a beautiful parkinglot (keep your drivingspeed low before you turn!), surrounded by stones from landslides of the Lógmanúpur.

The mountain was formed over 1 million years and is largely made of palagonite, with lava beds and sediment making up the base. Stories related to Lómagnúpur have been around for a long time. One of the oldest, and the most famous one, is from the Njálssaga.

When you have some time to spend here, look for an optical illusion;

- From the west the Lógmanúpur seems to be the same height as the rest of the Björninn mountain (not even the highest part).

- From the south the Lógmanúpur seems to stand alone from the rest of the Björninn mountain.

- From the east the Lógmanúpur looks much higher than the rest of the Björninn mountain (which he in fact is).
