Delta Dawn
Delta Dawn is a song written by Larry Collins and Alex Harvey and it is best known as the top ten country hit for Tanya Tucker, released May 13, 1972. It was also a number one hit for Helen Reddy in 1973 and recorded by many other artists.
When researching information about Delta Dawn, I found that the two whales that got into the Sacramento River in 1977 were named Delta and Dawn. There is a 2014 documentary called Delta Dawn about the releasing of water into the Colorado River that allowed the river to "kiss" the sea for the first time in almost twenty years. There is a Delta Dawn Lane in North Las Vegas, Nevada and one in Fair Oaks, Texas. There is a Delta Dawn Drive in Sevierville, Tennessee and another in Springfield Illinois.
The most interesting thing I found was in the state of Missouri, there are towns named Delta (63744) and Dawn (64638) and The Old Farmers yearly have a Delta Dawn Day celebration. Who would have known?
