Geocache Description:

St Austell Station

St Austell Station is 286 miles (460 km) from London Paddington and is operated by Great Western Railway

The station is served by both local and long-distance trains, including the Night Riviera sleeper service.

Originally opened in 1859 by Cornwall Railway which became part of Great Western Railway in 1889.

For many years its original goods yard operated as a terminus for the Motorail Service which allowed passengers to bring their cars with them from a number of locations around the UK. The original buildings and footbridge were of a design common to a number of stations on the Cornwall Railway line from Plymouth to Penzance. In 2000 the main buildings on the downline side were completely rebuilt and lifts installed for passengers wishing to transfer between platforms.

Recent figures show that the station is used by almost half a million arriving or departing passengers each year and it is the fourth busiest station on the line.

The cache is a small magnetic tube on the back of a pedestrian sign close to the railway.

The area is busy with pedestrians and passing traffic so please be stealthy.
