OS BENEVIDES - UMA FAMÍLIA DE FERREIROS FERRADORES
Os Benevides são uma familia de mestres ferreiros e ferradores que praticam a arte da forja há mais de quatro geracões.
Na época em que abundavam os transportes de tração animal, os Benevides forjavam muitos canelos e ferraduras assim como aros de ferro para colocar nas rodas dos carros de bois e das carroças. Dedicaram se também à feitura de instrumentos agrícolas e de utensílios de cozinha, assim como à cura de pessoas e de animais. de certas doenças.
A TENDA DOS BENEVIDES
A tenda situa-se no gaveto da Avenida Infante D. Henrique com a Avenida Poças Falcão, na treguesia de Santa Cruz, Cidade de Lagoa, e foi mandada construir pelo mestre João Benevides, bisavô do atual proprietário, passando depois para o seu filho José Benevides nos principios do século XX. Posteriormente a tenda fica a cargo de António Benevides, que a passa em 1950 para o seu filho João Benevides.
O mestre João Benevides é, presentemente, o único ferreiro ferrador a praticar regularmente a sua arte, na ilha de S. Miguel, embora tenha tido o cuidado de transmitir esta arte ao seu filho.
Com a sua preservação no local esta unidade de produção artesanal revela-se um espaço explicativo da atividade de ferreiro ferrador quer a nível do passado, quer do presente, sendo valorizada socialmente e culturalmente.
COMPLEMENTOS INTERPRETATIVOS
A tenda possui igualmente uma vertente museológica, tendo sido depositados três foles de tipos diferentes, um avental de ferreiro e utensilagem relacionada com a atividade. Foram também colocados elementos explicativos das atividades que aí se desenvolvem.

THE TENT OF BENEVIDES
The tent is located at the corner of Avenida Infante D.
