This multi cache will take you around some of the wonderful industrial archaeological remains that are still visible in the Meldon Quarry area. This area comprised originally of three main areas of quarry extraction, although there is evidence for a number of small extraction areas. One of the larger ones, as well as a number of the smaller examples, have been filled in by waste material from the later quarrying activities, most likely from the two still visible today. These quarries were for applite and limestone.
As well as the obvious quarries themselves, the visible remains of the once bustling activities also include, tramways, weighing stations, water wheel pits, kilns (for the lime), spoil heaps and ancillary buildings. Meldon is a great location as a number of these are still very well preserved.
