You're cordially invited to attend our 5th Annual GilSUMMER Gathering!
That’s right! We’re celebrating FIVE YEARS of Summer Gathering in Gilsum! This is a backyard, family-style geocacher fellowship to include: Cacher Meet & Greet, Nearby Geocaching, Potluck, Campfire & S'Mores, Swimming, Games, TB Trading, Logbook, Story-Telling & Other Activities. Everyone is welcome. Yes, even your “not-really-into-geocaching” friend or spouse who likes campfires and good company.
Now, seeing as how this is our 5th Anniversary of the GilGat event, we decided we must do something really, really special! Each year, we’ve had a different, super-cool game activity planned. But this year, the game is SO BIG and SO AWESOME, we had to expand GilGat5 to an ALL-DAY EVENT! In fact, we broke the mold and moved the event into early September, just so we could have ample time to deliver you the most satisfying GilSUMMER Gathering you ever experienced EVER. It's almost like an event within an event. Eventception. What is it, pray tell? Usually we play mum about the details of the game. And the powers that be insist that we continue to do so. But it is very much like a scavenger hunt. And there shall be lots of opportunities cropping up throughout the day to scavenge. Manifest destiny, folks. We look forward to hearing all your tall tales and FTF trophy stories around the campfire at GilGat5!

Rumor has it that some time during the day... a virtual cache will make its grand appearance! (now how’s that for some bragging-rights bait? Lol)

9:00am: LOGBOOK OPENS. All on its own. Magically.
9:00am-9:30am: ARRIVAL. Late-comers will be tarred and feathered, so do be punctual.
9:30am-10:00am: GAME INSTRUCTIONS. Game Maps will become available.
10:00am-5:00pm:GILGAT GAME. Hunting season is officially open.
5:00pm: GILGAT5 GOING STRONG. Campfire is lit! Meet at the pit for game prizes!
5:00pm-9:00pm: POTLUCK & S'MORES. Let's eat and be merry.
6:00pm: GROUP PICTURE. Smile! You're having an awesome day!
9:00pm: LOGBOOK CLOSES. That's a wrap, folks!

SPECIAL NOTES:
LATE-COMERS: Okay, so you won't really be tarred and feathered. It's so much worse. You could miss out on the opportunity to participate in our big game! But no matter when you finally arrive on the scene in Gilsum, we will have plenty of Game Maps available and opportunities will abound for a FTF throughout the day, all around the Monadnock Region! !
LOGBOOK: You do not need to participate in the event game in order to sign the logbook. It is enough to socialize with us in Gilsum for a few minutes, if that's all you can spare. The logbook will be open from 9:00am to 9:00pm.
TB LOGGING: Are you bringing any TB's with you? Be sure to log them in at the TB Station, under the Main Tent in the front yard. If you wish to do any trading, there will be a bowl from which to trade, or you can make trades directly with other cachers. But as long as you list the codes on the TB Log, everyone who logged their attendence at the event will later be messaged this list for "Discovering" within a week of the event.
GAME ETIQUETTE: This should go without saying, but this is a family-friendly event, even if it has an edge of competition. At each location, a unique sticker will be available for the first scavenger to adhere to their Game Map, proving the authenticity of their find.
WIFI: There will be two or three laptops at the GilGat HQ that you can use to log FTF's for anyone who uses a GPS exclusively. A WiFi Guest Network is also available. Password will be provided at the event near the Log Book.
VENDORS: New for this year's line-up of fun! If you would like to be a vendor, please message SurryRoadSeekers for more information and space availability.
CAMPFIRE SEATING: We do have some campfire seating on the patio; but we do not know how many to expect, so play it safe and bring additional seats! (And then bring your seats home with you afterwards, as we have had lawn chairs left behind some years! We appreciate your donation, but we'd prefer you keep your own! lol We were not able to identify who lost them, so if you are a return cacher and see your long-lost chair, please take it back!)
FOOD:Unless you see that at least a couple other Geocachers have noted the food item, we will need: Drinks (Soda, Juice, Water), Pasta/Potato/Fruit Salads, Chips & Dip, Burger & Hot Dog Condiments, Cheese, Cookies/Pies/Brownies and other fun Side Dishes of your Creation. Bonus points if you bring something inspired by Geocaching somehow!
PETS: Just want to let everyone know that we do have pets. Two dogs and a cat. The latter will be indoors, but the former, named Boomy and Pax (black lab/german shepard mixes), will be in pure ecstasy by all the new visitors! They love to play fetch- so throw them a stick! You're welcome to bring your own well-behaved dog, if you wish, so they can all play together; just realize we have an underground fence for our dogs to roam freely in, not an actual physical barrier between the yard and road. However, their fence prevents them from being on the patio. Use your best judgment. If you or someone in your party is uncomfortable around big dogs, or you plan to bring your own dog(s), please let us know in advance so we can make the appropriate accommodations! Thanks!
