A simple, off-set multi that adds another cache to this lovely village while drawing attention to the rather magnificent Victorian church. There has been a church on this site since the 13th century, initially closely associated with the manor hall here. In 1783 the Lord of the Manor, Beilby Thompson, rebuilt the original. Almost a hundred years later, in 1857, Beilby Lawley paid the architect, F.C.Penrose, to design a new building in the Victorian Gothic style. This is the grade 2* listed building you see today. The interior is particularly ornate with several unusual features worth viewing. Turn up on a Sunday and you may be treated to the sound of its twelve bells in full peal, impressive in their own right. The Selby road A19 is always very busy so pull off into the adjacent hotel and pub to park and be careful when crossing into the village. Close to the initial coordinates for the church is a tribute to a local man with links to Christmas and to Egypt. Establish the year he was born and the year he died. For these eight numbers assign a letter of the alphabet. Then substitute the letters for numbers again in the following formula to reveal the position of the actual cache: N53°52.(B-A)(A+C)(H) W001°02.(C+D)(G-D)(F-A-E). Checksum: letters A to H total 41. The cache is hidden in full public view, quite close to houses. Keep an eye out for muggles and please replace the cache carefully so that they can't see it easily.
