Like many of the veterans who frequent the Novotny-Kachena American Legion Post 208 in the small North Dakota town of Pisek, a wall of the building tells the story of military veterans who have fought in this country's wars since the revolution. When a group of Pisek veterans decided it was time to honor its veterans, a couple of them began a driving tour to see what examples were out there. They came across a few murals painted on buildings in the town of Portland, ND. It was there they were introduced to the artist, Wanda Lee. They agreed to have her paint one mural on one wall representing 10 wars. She provided them with a sketch and they gave her the thumbs up. In three weeks, the mural was complete.
