Geocache Description:

Three of a Kind

Summary
Fire up the Wherigo cartridge and move around the Ashridge Estate collecting playing cards for a great poker hand. Collect any three cards of the same rank (e.g. three Sevens) and you will get the coordinates for the cache. You might get lucky at some locations and receive a bonus card before moving on!

Background
Geocaching Poker Runs have been organised around the world for a while now. On a given day, cachers meet up for a starting event and then head off into the local territory to find new caches, each of which contains a playing card to collect. Players try to make the best poker hand from the cards they collect and then return to a closing event later that day for prize-giving.

Details
This cache is inspired by these events. You can play this one at any time and the Wherigo cartridge handles the location of the playing cards and their distribution. All you need to do is start the cartridge anywhere on the Ashridge estate and leave it running. The Wherigo map will show you the areas where cards may be collected. As you move around (perhaps finding other great caches on the estate) the game will automatically pick up cards found in the areas you enter. Listen out for the audible indications for found cards and bonus items. Your Inventory will hold all of your collected cards and your rewards. There is also a SUMMARY item that will count up your cards for you.

Once you have collected 'Three of a Kind' the game will award you an item in your Inventory with details for locating the cache. You can keep on playing for 'Four of a Kind' to find a second cache in the estate grounds. See GC7T0VJ for full details of this cache. Both caches use the same cartridge.

The game will automatically save its state every time you pick up a card. If your device crashes (as sometimes happens) then you should be able restore your last saved game to continue from where you were.

Installation
To play this game you will need a mobile device that can play Wherigo cartridges. This will need to be a smartphone because the game will not play on a Garmin GPSr - even one that has Wherigo capabilities.

For an Android phone you need to install the WhereYouGo application.

For iOS phones you need to install the Wherigo application.

Download the cartridge from the wherigo.com web site.
Please make sure you are running the latest version as corrections and updates are made from time to time. The current version is 1.1 (11 Oct 2020). If you started playing v1.0 and have saved games then continue with that version and contact Ed2Ed for the updated hints at the final cache locations.

Further details about running Wherigo games can be found on the wherigo.com web site. The Completion Code to 'unlock' the game on the wherigo.com web site is found at the 'Four of a Kind' cache location.
