Der Schwarze Holunder (Sambucus nigra), auch bekannt als südwestdeutsch-schweizerisch Holder(busch), ist ein Strauch aus der Gattung Holunder (Sambucus). Der Schwarze Holunder ist eine der in Mitteleuropa häufigsten Straucharten. Seine Blüten und Früchte finden vielfach Verwendung als Heilmittel, Lebensmittel und Farbstoff.
Sambucus nigra is a species complex of flowering plants in the family Adoxaceae native to most of Europe and North America. Common names include elder, elderberry or black elder. It is a deciduous shrub or small tree growing to 6 m (20 ft) tall and wide. The dark blue/purple berries can be eaten when fully ripe but are mildly poisonous in their unripe state. All green parts of the plant are poisonous.
