About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

About Cirencester Town Station

Cirencester Town was one of the three stations that once served the historic town of Cirencester (the others being Cirencester Watermoor and Chesterton Lane Halt) and was the terminus of the Cirencester branch of the Cheltenham and Great Western Union Railway.

The line was sanctioned in April 1836 and Cirencester Station opened on 31st April 1841. The station was renamed from 'Cirencester' to 'Cirencester Town' in 1924 and remained active until it fell victim to 'Beeching's Axe' on 6th April 1964.

This cache is a micro placed within the public car park that is now present on the site of the old station - Please bring your own pen!

Behind you (if you are in the right place!) is the original station building: This Grade II listed building was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel himself (along with assistant R. P. Brereton) and built in time for the station's opening in 1841. The building was extended to the side in 1956 in matching bath stone, and has been empty for some time, now being owned by Cotswold District Council.

The cache location is very busy, so keep an eye on little cachers and cacher pups, and keep an eye out for muggles. Stealth required.
