[RO] Piaţa Libertăţii este fără îndoială cea mai veche dintre pieţele Timişoarei.
Locaţia Pietei Libertatii este şi amplasamentul nucleului iniţial de la care a pornit evoluţia Timişoarei, primul loc în care s-au aşezat oamenii şi au locuit continuu pe vatra oraşului actual. Piaţa adăposteşte unele dintre cele mai vechi construcţii existente în oraşul actual: Comenduirea Garnizoanei (fostul Generalat, clădire existentă în anul 1727), fosta Cancelarie de Război (de asemenea existentă în 1727, formează astăzi aripa de est a Primăriei Vechi), Primăria Veche (1731 – 1734) şi Cazinoul Militar (construit începând din 1744, când s-a iniţiat execuţia corpului de pe str. actuală Brediceanu, la colţ cu str. Mărăşeşti). Acolo unde se află astăzi faţada principală a Cazinoului Militar în anii 1746–1747 încă se mai afla fosta „Moschee a Silahdarului”. Abia pe planul din 1773 corpul de clădire cu faţada cazinoului spre piaţă apare ca fiind în construcţie, ple planul din 1788 este terminat.
Monumentul din central pieţei are două denumiri – utilizate în acelaşi timp: "Monumentul Sfintei Maria" şi "Monumentul Sfântului Nepomuk".Statuia actuală înlocuia la 1756 statuia mai veche şi mai modestă ce-l reprezenta pe Sfântul Nepomuk, sfânt protector al catolicilor din Banat.
Cutia se află la jumătatea distanţei dintre statuie şi Facultatea de Muzică. Fiți foarte atenți, pentru că este o zonă intens circulată! Atenție la curioși; munca în echipă este recomandată!
[EN] The Liberty Square is undoubtedly the oldest of the Timişoara squares. Libertăţii Square’s location is also the site of the original nucleus from which Timişoara’s evolution started, the first place where people settled and lived continuously in the hearth of today’s city. The square hosts some of the oldest buildings existing in the today’s city: the Garrison Command (the former Generalate, a building existing in 1727), the former Chancellery of War (also existing in 1727, now forms the east wing of Old Town Hall), the Old Town Hall (1731 - 1734) and the Military Casino (built starting with 1744, when the body on today’s Brediceanu Street, at corner with Mărăşeşti Street, started to be built). Where the main façade of the Military Casino is today, in the years 1746 to 1747 there was still the former “mosque of the Silahdar”. The building body with the casino’s façade facing the square appears to be under construction only on the 1773 plan; on the 1788 plan it appears as finished.
The monument from square’s cente has two names – both used: “St. Mary Monument” and “St. Nepomuk Monument".The nowadays statue was replacing in 1756 the older and more modest statue representing St. Nepomuk, patron saint of Catholics in Banat.
The cache is at half of distance between the statue and Music University. Please be very carefful, because it's a area with intense pedestrian traffic! Beware to muggles teamwork is recommended!
