Square dancing [skvér densing] je aktivita na pomezí společenské zábavy, tance (ačkoli zlí jazykové tvrdí, že taneční figura je v něm jen jedna) a .... asi kvízu. Poprvé byl zdokumentován v 16. století v Anglii, ale běžný byl i ve Francii a jinde po Evropě. S přistěhovalci přišel do Severní Ameriky, odkud se rozšířil do celého světa. Na rozdíl od country tanců, kterých je příbuzným, se netančí stále stejné, dávno známé, tance ani si každý netančí, co chce. To by ostatně ani nešlo, protože se tančí ve čtverylkách, což jsou formace čtyř párů tanečníků uspořádaných do čtverce. Ti potřebují ještě callera [kolera], který předříkává nebo předzpěvuje figury, které se budou tančit. Každý tanec tak může být jedinečný a je jen na schopnostech callera, jak moc je pestrý a jak tanečníkům zauzluje mozkové závity. To vše anglicky, protože je to na celém světě úplně stejné. Když přijede Číňan k nám, tak si bez potíží může přijít zatančit. Stejně tak Čech kdekoli ve světě. Takové návštěvy vůbec nejsou neobvyklé. Figur je opravdu hodně, ale v úrovni basic [beizik] stačí pár desítek, abyste si zatančili.
Jak na keš? Aby se v tom trochu dalo vyznat, tak jsou páry mimo jiné očíslované, což se nám hodí. Čtyři je ale trochu málo, takže si očíslujeme všechny tanečníky. Všude na ploše uvnitř stojící čtverylky přidáme číslici 9 a všude okolo čtverylky a jinde venku číslici 0 (těch nul by tam mohlo být napsaných....), jak je znázorněno na obrázku. A teď už postavme čtverylku. Vy se postavte na pozici pána páru číslo 1, tedy na jedničku. Jestli jste dáma, nevadí. I ve skutečnosti, když někdo chybí, tak ochotně zaskočí kdokoli jiný. Stejně se to promíchá. Zazní hudba a caller spustí: Heads Square Thru Four. No a už stojíte na pozici A. Tanec pokračuje All Square Thru Two, Bend The Line, Star Thru a vy se ocitáte na pozici B. Dive Thru, Centers Pass Thru, Right and Left Thru …. no a jste na C. Box The Gnat, Pass The Ocean …. a teď na D. Boys Run, Bend The Line a už jste na E. Pass Thru, Trade By, Right and Left Thru, Half Sashay a jste konečně na F. Ve skutečnosti by vás caller na konci tance dovedl zase „domů“, tedy tam, kde jste začínali. Vy ale můžete s hlavou ještě do čtverce vyrazit pro finálovku.

Netančíte? Nemáte takto praštěného kamaráda? Strejda Google mlčí? Tak přijďte někdy v pondělí mimo prázdniny a svátky tak po sedmé večer na úvodní souřadnice. Když uvnitř uvidíte partu, do rytmu se motající, tak neváhejte. Určitě Vám někdo z nich pomůže. Od září můžete na partu pokročilejších tanečníků narazit i ve čtvrtek po osmé večer. Nechcete přijít? Tak klíčové slovo je třeba taminations.
Square dancing is an activity at the intersection of entertainment, dancing (although some people say that there is only one real dance figure in it) and.....maybe some quiz. It was first documented in England in the 16th century. It used to be quite common in France and throughout Europe. It came to North America with the settlers and from there to the whole world. It is similar to traditional quadrilles and contra dances. The difference is that dancers don't do the same old dances over and over, nor everybody dances deliberately whatever they want. It would not be possible anyway because dancers dance in squares, which are formations of four couples of dancers, arranged to a square shape. They need a caller, too, who says or sings figures to be danced. Each dance could be unique and only the capabilities and imagination of the caller limit its variety and how much the brains of dancers are tied into knots. Everything is in English because it is unified all over the world. When a Chinese dancer comes to the Czech Republic, he or she can come and dance with us without any problem. Of course, Czech dancers can do the same anywhere all over the world. Such visits are not unusual. The number of calls is quite high but a few dozens of them are enough to be able to dance at the basic level.
And how to solve the cache? To be able to navigate dancers, the couples are numbered, which is good for us. But four positions are not enough, so we assign a number to each dancer. Number nine is everywhere inside the static square and number zero is everywhere outside (not only four places, where the numbers are), as shown in the picture above. And now set your square. You are standing at the position of the man in the couple number one. It means you start at the position number one. Are you a lady? It doesn't matter. Also in reality when there are not enough men or ladies, somebody helps to fill the square. Everything will get mixed anyway. Now the music starts and the caller says: Heads Square Thru Four. So, now you are standing at position A. The dance goes on All Square Thru Two, Bend The Line, Star Thru and you find yourself at position B. Dive Thru, Centers Pass Thru, Right and Left Thru …. and then you are at C . Box The Gnat, Pass The Ocean …. and now at D. Boys Run, Bend The Line and already at E. Pass Thru, Trade By, Right and Left Thru, Half Sashay … and finally at F. At a real dance, the caller brings you "home" - to your original position, but this particular dance leads you to the final position of the cache.

If you can see a group of people performing various rhythmic movements inside, don't hesitate. Some of them will help you for sure.
