Geocache Description:

About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

About Tunbridge Wells Station

This multi-cache takes in two locations; the bridge next to the station, which will give you the details to lead you to the final at a historical location most people passing through the town will not be aware of.

The first station in Tunbridge Wells was a temporary terminus opened on 20 September 1845 and was situated north of Wells Tunnel. This closed when the line was extended to the present station which opened on 25 November 1846.

It became a through station in 1851 when the line opened to Robertsbridge and a year later opened through to Hastings. The LBSCR line from Grove Junction to Tunbridge Wells(West) opened in 1867 for goods and 1876 for passengers.

Immediately after becoming part of the Southern Railway in 1923 the station was named Tunbridge Wells Central.

In 1985, in preparation for electrification, the platforms were rebuilt and the tracks were resignalled. Electric trains started running in 1986. The station again became just Tunbridge Wells.

The Cache

To find the cache, visit the road bridge and view the four iron plates on each of the corner plinths (two are the same). Use the information from these to calculate the co-ordinates for the final.

On the iron plate directly above the High Street road sign:
A = 1st word
B = 4th word

On the iron plate with the castle:

C = 1st word
D = 2nd word

On the iron plate where it gives the year the bridge was opened:

E = The job P. C. Tempest performed
F = Surname of the General Manager of the South Eastern and Chatham Railway Company

Use the above information to work out the co-ordinates

N51 07. (B + F) E (B – A)

E000 15. (D – A) (C + A) C
