Geocache Description:

CONGRATULATIONS TO doglover&pups FOR THE FTF!!

This is one of 11 caches that take geocache seekers to sites along various trails in Curt Gowdy.  At the present time, the 3,400-acre area includes 32 trails that provide 42 miles of hiking, mountain biking, and snowshoeing opportunities.  A new, 1.2-mile handicapped-accessible trail has also been completed recently.

The trails have been rated for mountain bikers, ranging from “Easy” to “Expert”.  Caches have been hidden along stretches of four of five mountain bike difficulty categories.  Some of the hikes or rides are short; others require reasonable distances.  Cache seekers should evaluate each and determine what to bring in terms of water, food, and extra clothing in case of weather changes while hiking to cache locations. Certain trails are popular during summer months but attract little use in the winter–making snowshoe hikes particularly enjoyable.  Dogs are allowed, but are to be kept on leash at all times.

The trails traverse habitats ranging from grass-covered high plains to mountain shrub communities to gorgeous granitic rock formations to beautiful canyons.  Two reservoirs provide scenic backdrops from many vantages along the well-maintained trails.  The juxtaposition of reservoirs, canyons, and sculpted granite outcrops create a remarkable landscape and wonderful place to enjoy the intersection of the Great Plains with mountain foothills.  Numbered trail signs with each sign’s corresponding map are positioned at every trail junction. An excellent, free, trail map is available at the north and south entrances to the area. Daily entrance fees are $4 per resident vehicle and $6 per nonresident vehicle. Annual passes are also available at reasonable prices.

This series includes 10 Traditional caches, this multi cache, and a Mystery cache. In eight of the 10 Traditionals a code is included on the cache log paper (and in some of the eight, also on the inside of the container lid). You will need to find all eight codes from the caches having them, in order to solve a puzzle that enables you to locate the 12th cache in this series--the mystery cache. If you are lucky, only eight caches will need to be visited to determine the location of the mystery cache. On the other hand, you might end up visiting all 10 before you have the eight codes. In order to solve the puzzle you also will need to find this Multi cache to obtain some of the information required to determine the coordinates of the Mystery cache.

Kate's Trail

Kates' trail is 1.2 miles in length, starting at the park Visitor's Center. It is a wide concrete path that's wheel chair compatible. This is a two-stage multi that should be fast and simple. The final stage container has a log sheet to sign as well as a paper that provides coordinates needed to calculate the location of the Mystery/Puzzle cache that concludes this series. Make certain to return this instructional paper to the cache container.
