Pánové Ferdinand Strach a Václav Roztočil svolali 1. května 1898 do hostince pana Kráfnera ustavující schůzi pro zřízení hasičského sboru v Budňanech. Ustavující schůze se zúčastnilo 22 občanů, kteří zvolili pana Ferdinanda Stracha předsedou, pana Čeňka Reška velitelem a pana Karla Bumbu podvelitelem. Tak vznikl v Budňanech pod Karlštejnem nejstarší spolek v obci. O rok později, 22. května 1899, byla uspořádána slavnost svěcení ruční stříkačky.
Již 11. července 1899 se náš sbor zúčastnil prvního hašení požáru. Bylo to o půl jedné v noci v obci Korno. Dle zápisů jsme si vedli dobře.
Nově založený sbor však nechce, jak praví zápis, pomáhat jen při požárech, ale i při zábavách a poučení občanstva. Zřizuje proto roku 1904 ochotnický sbor a půjčovnu knih. Ve stejném roce přistupují do sboru členové sousední obce Poučník a jsou členy až do roku 1937.
V roce 1912 se sbor účastnil hašení požáru mlýna v Klučicích, který trval dvě noci a den. Za dva roky však přichází 1. světová válka. Činnost sboru ustává a valná hromada je svolána až po skončení války.
Konečně je rok 1918 a konec války. Nastává radost ze vzniku republiky a pomalu se rozvíjí činnost hasičského sboru. Starostou sboru je zvolen pan Matěj Slepička, kterého čeká těžká práce. Ve sboru jsou pro finanční potíže třenice. Jen požáry v obci, a to roku 1932 u Janů a 1933 u Mužíků, dávají sbor na nějaký čas dohromady.
Začíná velká nezaměstnanost a hrozba Hitlera. Národ se stmeluje k obraně a snad i proto se splňuje přání sboru a 22. července 1938 stojí motorová stříkačka ve zbrojnici. V zápisové knize stojí psáno: „hájiti budeme naši samostatnost proti všem nepřátelům". Pod tímto jsou podpisy všech členů sboru. Přichází protektorát. Málo je zápisů z těchto smutných časů, více však starostí v hlavách těch, kteří se snaží všechny velitelské rozkazy vyřídit a své cti neuškodit.
Konečně je tu rok 1945 a s ním osvobození. Hasiči dávají do pořádku svoji výzbroj a vedení. Rokem 1946 začínají na hradě představení Vrchlického hry Noc na Karlštejně. Při nich drží hasiči služby, nejdříve zdarma, později za odměnu. Výnos z odměn a příspěvek od pořadatelů her pomáhá sboru ke zlepšování výstroje a výzbroje. Pořizují si cvičební a vycházkové stejnokroje. V této době hasiči pořádají mnoho brigád, a to nejen ve zbrojnici, ale všude, kde je třeba, kupříkladu při výmlatech obilí.
Po sloučení obcí Poučník a Budňany s osadami Krupná a Klučice v roce 1951 jsou ustaveny dvě jednotky požární ochrany Karlštejn I a Karlštejn II.
Spoluprací obou jednotek dosahuje sbor mnoha úspěchů v požárních soutěžích ve všech kategoriích, tj. muži, ženy, dorost, žáci a žákyně. V roce 1956 je sboru přidělen automobil Praga RH 16, potom automobil Fenomen, později Tatra 805 a Trambus Škoda 706. Uskutečňují se námětová cvičení na hrad Karlštejn. Při cvičení v roce 1957 se nám ve spolupráci s okolními sbory a požárním útvarem Beroun podařilo dopravit vodu z řeky Berounky do hlavní věže hradu za 27 minut. Ke sloučení jednotek požární ochrany Karlštejn I a Karlštejn II v jednu jednotku došlo 19. února 1968.
V září roku 1988 jsme oslavili 90 let od svého založení. Přípravu na oslavy na čas přerušil rozvodněný Budňanský potok. Ve dnech 29. - 30. května se v důsledku nového několikahodinového deště rozvodnil. Po oba dny pomáhali naši členové zvládat následky této přírodní kalamity. K tomuto výročí byly vydány odznaky a brožura. Požární družstvo VÚHŽ předvedlo ukázku požárního sportu a činnost staré ruční stříkačky. Byla vystavena veškerá požární technika i fotografie a dokumenty. Součástí oslav byla i slavnostní schůze, na které nejlepší členové sboru obdrželi různá vyznamenání.
V roce 1991 se nově utvořily okrsky, bylo založeno okresní sdružení hasičů Čech, Moravy a Slezka.
Nová politická situace přinesla i restituce. Našeho sboru se dotkla restituce domu, ve kterém byla umístěna „stará“ pošta. Obecní zastupitelstvo, dalo návrh na zrušení sboru dobrovolných hasičů, protože chce naši zbrojnici přebudovat na poštovní úřad. Náš výbor s tím však nesouhlasí a chce s členy obecního zastupitelstva jednat o nějakém jiném řešení.
Rok 1992 byl pro život sboru významný. Spor s obecním zastupitelstvem skončil smírem, našlo se řešení v podobě stavby nové požární zbrojnice v parku vedle mateřské školy. V květnu se začalo se stavbou zbrojnice, pro kterou byl zvolen takový materiál a technologie, aby mohla být nejpozději v listopadu dokončena. Mezitím se naše bývalá zbrojnice začala adaptovat na poštu, a proto jsme museli urychleně vystěhovat veškerou techniku, vnitřní zařízení, demontovat sušák hadic a sirénu. Díky pochopení a ochotě vedoucího místních dílen státního statku, jsme získali prozatímní prostory pro naši techniku i zařízení.
Poté obec předala zbrojnici sboru k užívání. V této době klesly teploty pod bod mrazu, a tak se urychleně stěhovali požární automobily do nové garáže. Čekala nás práce s vybavením stavby a úpravou okolního zanedbaného pozemku. Ale i tak jme měli z nové zbrojnice obrovskou radost. I přes komplikované provizorní podmínky se nám v roce 1992 podařilo splnit mnoho úkolů.
Sbor do dnes sídlí na tomto místě, ročně vyjíždí přibližně k 20 zásahům, mezi něž patří nejvíce technická pomoc, ale i větší či menší požáry.
V roce 2017 nám v garáži zaparkovala nová cisterna CAS 30 Tatra 815-2 8500/510 S2VH financovaná z dotací IROPU za spoluúčasti obce.

Establishment and the beginnings of the Volunteer Fire Department in Budňany pod Karlštejnem
Gentlemen Ferdinand Strach and Václav Roztočil convened a founding meeting in Mr Kráfner’s inn in Budňany on 22 May 1898 to establish a fire department in Budňany. The founding meeting was attended by 22 citizens who elected Mr Ferdinand Strach chairman, Mr Čeněk Rešek commander and Mr Karel Bumba under-commander. Thus, the oldest society in Budňany pod Karlštejnem was established. A year later, on 22 May 1899, a ceremony was held to consecrate a hand-held sprayer.
Already on 11 July 1899, our brigade took part in the first firefighting. It happened at half past one in the night in the village of Korno. We did well according to the records.
However, as the record shows, the newly formed brigade does not only want to help with fires but also with entertaining and educating citizens. Therefore, it established an amateur choir and a library in 1904. In the same year, members of the neighbouring village of Poučník joined the brigade and were members until 1937.
In 1912, the fire brigade took part in extinguishing the mill fire in Klučice, which lasted two nights and a day. In two years, however, World War I broke out. The activities of the brigade ceased, and the general meeting is called after the end of the war.
Finally, it’s 1918, and the war is over. The joy from the establishment of the republic is coming, and the activities of the fire brigade are slowly developing. Mr Matěj Slepička is elected mayor of the brigade and is facing hard work. There are squabbles within the brigade due to financial difficulties. Only fires in the village, in 1932 at the Jan’s family and in 1933 at the Mužík’s family put the brigade back together for some time.
High unemployment and the threat of Hitler are beginning. The nation is uniting in defence, and perhaps that is why the brigade’s wish was fulfilled, and on 22 July 1938, a motorized sprayer was in the fire station. The book of records says: “we will defend our independence against all enemies”. All members of the brigade are signed below. The protectorate is coming. There are a few records from these sad times, but more worries in the minds of those who are trying to carry out all command orders and not harm their honours.
Finally, the year 1945 is here together with the liberation. Firefighters put their arms and leadership in order. In 1946, performances of Vrchlický’s play Noc na Karlštejně began at the castle. The firefighters are on duty, first for free, later for a reward. The proceeds from the rewards and the contribution from the play organizers help the brigade to improve the arms and equipment. They purchase exercise and walking uniforms. In this time, the firefighters hold many part-time jobs, not only in the fire station but everywhere necessary, for example in corn threshing.
Activities of the Fire Protection Union in Karlštejn
After merging of the villages Poučník a Budňany with the settlements Krupná a Klučice in 1951, two fire protection unites Karlštejn I and Karlštejn II were established.
With the cooperation of both units, the brigade achieves many successes in fire competitions of all categories, i.e. men, women, youths, pupils. In 1956, the brigade was assigned the Praga RH 16 automobile, then the Fenomen automobile, later Tatra 805 and Trambus Škoda 706. Thematic exercises to the Karlštejn castle are taking place. During the training in 1957, we managed to transport water from the Berounka river to the main tower of the castle in 27 minutes, in cooperation with the surrounding brigades and the Beroun Fire Department. The Karlštejn I and Karlštejn II fire protection units were merged in one brigade on 19 February 1968.
In September 1988, we celebrated 90 years since our establishment. Preparations for the celebration were temporarily interrupted by the flooded Budňany brook. On 29-30 May, it flooded due to new several hour showers of rain. On both days, the members of our brigade helped manage the consequences of this natural disaster. Badges and a brochure were issued for this anniversary. The VÚHŽ fire team showed a demonstration of fire-fighting sport and the operation of an old hand-held sprayer. All firefighting equipment, as well as photos and documents, were exhibited. The celebrations also included a ceremonial meeting, at which the best members of the brigade received various awards.
In 1991, new districts were formed, the district association of firefighters of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia was established.
The new political situation also brought restitution. The restitution of the house where the “old” post office was situated affected our brigade. The municipal board proposed to dissolve the volunteer fire department because it wants to rebuild our fire station into a post office. However, our committee does not agree and want to negotiate another solution with the members of the municipal board.
The year 1992 was significant for the life of the brigade. The dispute with the municipal board ended up in peace, a solution was found in the form of building a new fire station in the park next to the kindergarten. In May, the construction of the new fire station started, for which such material and technology was chosen so it could be finished in November at the latest. Meanwhile, our formed fire station began to adapt to the post office, so we had to quickly move all the equipment and internal devices out, dismantle the hose dryer and the siren. Thanks to the understanding and willingness of the head of the state farm local workshops, we gained temporary premises for our equipment and devices.
Then the municipality handed the fire station over to the brigade for use. At this time, temperatures dropped below the freezing point, so fire trucks moved quickly to the new garage. Work with the equipment of the building and the modification of the surrounding neglected land awaited us. However, we were very happy about the new fire station. Despite complicated temporary conditions, we managed to complete many tasks in 1992.
The Present
To this day, the brigade is located in this place, annually setting off to approximately 20 actions, which include technical assistance the most, but also larger or smaller fires.
In 2017, a new water tank CAS 30 Tatra 815-2 8500/510 S2VH, financed from IROP subsidies with the participation of the municipality parked in our garage.
