Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints unequivocally affirm themselves to be Christians. They worship God the Eternal Father in the name of Jesus Christ. The site is considered ideal by the Church members, as it’s on high ground like a beacon should be. In the original plans for the area, the site was earmarked for a public house. The designation was changed to allow the Chapel to be built there instead and that pub was built over the road. The design is modest and simple both inside and out but it provides a wealth of well-organised public space and useful rooms.
The chapel was opened back in 1998. Since then, the congregation has grown so much that it’s been necessary to split the whole into two “wards” so that everyone can be seated at the services. The main worship hall itself is very simple in design; there are no stained glass windows, paintings or statues. A lot of investment went into the project initially, and the congregation today are still contributing towards its upkeep, through their tithes, (the biblical 10% of annual income) and other donations. There is a large recreation room, known as the Cultural Hall, which can be used as an extension for the Chapel or for sports and social functions. The Baptismal pool is at the rear – a large bath, or small swimming pool, however you want to look at it.
