Geocache Description:

About Village Sign Caches

This cache belongs to the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).

The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!

More information, bookmarks and statistics can be found at the Village Signs Website

If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk
so we can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.

Welcome to Hemingford Abbots. There are 271 dwellings in our village and about 635 people. It is a lively, friendly, modern community in a historic setting.

Hemingford Abbots is situated along the southern bank of the River Great Ouse in Cambridgeshire. The town of Huntingdon is 3 miles to the west and St Ives is about the same distance to the east. The nationally important A14 trunk road crosses the parish to the south of the village and provides links with Cambridge, Huntingdon, the M11, A1, M1 and the east coast ports.

Hemingford Abbots is well-known as a very picturesque village. Many visitors come to enjoy the river and the peaceful walks in the meadows. Much of the village is in the ‘Conservation Area’; here there are many thatched 16th and 17th century cottages and barns, and also the architecturally important buildings such as the Manor House, Old Rectory and Hemingford Park. The fine spire of the Grade I listed Church of St Margaret of Antioch is a landmark for miles around the Ouse valley.

The cache is a 60ml camo pot and it is NOT at the published coordinates so please don't go climbing all over it.

Visit the published coordinates which is the village sign and answer a question to find the coordinates of the cache.

Look at the sign.

How many red dots/ovals are there? This is A.

How many brown horns are there? This is B.

How many yellow triangular shapes are there at the top. This is C.

How many cats are on the sign? This is D.

The cache can be found at N52 B(A+C).(A+C)(A-C)(A-C) W 000 D(A+B).BAA
