We thought it would be great if we could put together a cache that was both a bit challenging and handicap / family friendly. At the suggestion of bspeng, we present you with a tour of the historic restored windmills and factories of Batavia. But wait! There's more!

The Terrain rating for this cache doesn't vary but the Difficulty rating is entirely up to you! That's right! If you act now (or when ever it fits your schedule) you can select up to three levels of Difficulty! Just for playing the game with us you are guaranteed to go home with an appreciation of how important a role the town of Batavia was to the harnessing of wind throughout the United States. Long before Fermi Lab, Batavia was earning the reputation as the "City of Energy." Also, you can always come back and complete the next level of difficulty by completing those additional steps. So let's get started!

(ratings out of 5 stars. 1 is easiest, 5 is hardest)
Difficulty: * Terrain: *
The minimum requirement to log this cache is to go to the following locations and e-mail us the answers to the questions that are asked:
  • N41°51.261', W088°18.495' - Read the sign and then let me know what the stack says and how some of the remaining buildings are being used.
  • N41°51.144', W088°18.549' - You will find a sculpture here. If you were the last child to complete the circle, what are the initials on the ring on the finger of the girl's hand you'd be holding?

(ratings out of 5 stars. 1 is easiest, 5 is hardest)
Difficulty: *1/2 Terrain: *
The minimum requirement to log this difficulty level is to complete the above items plus:
  • Upload a picture of yourself playing with the children mentioned above.
  • At N41°51.086', W088°18.515' is a plaque. To whom is this dedicated?

(ratings out of 5 stars. 1 is easiest, 5 is hardest)
Difficulty: ** Terrain: *
If you've gotten to this point, you're probably wondering what this all has to do with Etch-A-Sketch®.

Here's what you have to do to get the satisfaction of reaching the highest level in our little game:
  • Complete all four of the items listed above for the less difficult options.
  • Walk around the park (staying out of posted areas) and draw a windmill. Become a human Etch-A-Sketch® using your GPSr as the screen and upload it to this page!
Below is what we drew: And with annotations, if needed:
Yes, I know. Not much of a windmill but its better than the one I did on an Etch-A-Sketch®:
If you're still laughing, give it a try yourself at home or at the Etch-A-Sketch home page! Not laughing now are you? Not as easy as it looks. Just like the real thing Etch-A-Sketch ala GPS has its own limitations and challenges. We hope you enjoy our little game and look forward to your logs. For more information on the windmills see the historical society's website. And as an interesting little side trip (you won't even need to move your car,) visit the Batavia Depot Museum.
