September 9th, 1805. "...we halted at
a large stream which empties itself on the west side of the river. This is a
fine bold creek of clear water, about 20 yards wide, which we called
Traveler's-rest creek; for, as our guide
told us that we should here leave the river, we determined to remain for the
purpose of making celestial observations and collecting some food, as the
country through which we are to pass has no game for a great distance."

This event cache is being organized by Jennifer&Dean.
Traveler's Rest is having a small celebration on Sept. 9th from 4-6:30pm to commemorate would-be geocachers Lewis and Clark’s September 9, 1805, visit to the area. There will be hands-on classes in astronomy and navigation techniques given by the University of Montana's Physics Department and Earth Observing System (EOS) Program. This event is free to the public.
The Travelers' Rest Celebration is not associated with MOOG or Geocaching. As stated above it is free to the public, geocachers and non-geocachers alike. However, Travelers' Rest has invited us to hold an event cache along with them. The actual "Geocaching Event" will simply be us geocachers participating in the classes as a group, answering peoples questions about geocaching addiction on breaks, and just by being present, helping Travelers' Rest make this a successful event. We will also have a table setup to display sample cache containers, a map of geocaches in Western Montana, etc. Geacachers are encouraged to wear their geocaching t-shirts or hats if they have them.
