This year is the 10th Anniversary of Sadexploration creating the largest caching series in the world. To celebrate this milestone the events will all have the same Church Micro number 10010 and your attendance will count towards your Church Micro stats.
No precise dating exists for the construction of the church building we see today, but it would seem to have been begun around 1460.
In 1924 St Peter's joined with St Mary's in one benefice, and by the early 1970s it was clear that the parish could not support two congregations in the town. St Peter's was smaller & in a worse state of repair than St Mary's, so it was decided to make St Peter's redundant.
A charitable Trust formed to repair & preserve the building and to ensure it continued to benefit the local community. The Chancel and War Memorial Chapel have been reserved for private prayer but the building also now houses the coffee shop, a craft shop, an information centre and community space for concerts, lectures, and meetings.
For more information on the history of the church, St Peter’s Trust and the architecture & features of the building, their website is excellent http://www.stpetersmarlborough.com/
The café is a good place to meet (no purchase necessary but they do have a fabulous range of cakes, breakfasts and other meal options). They are happy to host groups, so if there are lots of “will attends” I can phone ahead to reserve some tables for us.
There are various car parks throughout the town. Please ensure you park wisely as the town has parking attendants in operation.
