Geocache Description – 7. Tall Stone
The Story
Whilst paddling about on Gloomy Water, Anne sees a tall stone on the horizon and wonders what it is. She then makes the connection to the tall stone on the map given to Dick earlier.
The Cache
This cache is placed near to one of the many Bronze Age Tall Stones on Dartmoor, although this one is situated in a valley and not on a hilltop as in the story. It is the tallest on the moor.
A return walk from the suggested parking to the cache is about 3 miles.
Points of Interest
The tall stone at Drizzlecombe is associated with several other bronze age features in the immediate area - three stone rows, three menhirs, three kistavens and seven cairns.
If you walk from the suggested car-parking you are likely to walk past Ditsworthy Warren House (yet another location associated with Rabbit Farming), which was used as setting for Narracott Farm in the 2011 Steven Spielberg film "War Horse".
