Geocache Description – 3. Beacons Village
The Story
After lunch, George is concerned about Timmy's leg and so the children make their way to Beacons village to ask for a vet to look at Timmy.
The Cache
The cache is hidden on the slopes of Cosdon Beacon and the suggested co-ordinates for car parking are in real Beacon Villages, Belstone and Sticklepath.
A return walk from the suggested parking is less than 3 miles.
Points of Interest
There are several beacon villages which lie in the shadow of Cosdon Beacon. It has been suggested that due to its height and visibility that beacon fires were lit here. It is possible that the beacon was lit at the time of the approaching Spanish Armada to muster the men of Devon to arms.
The north-western slope of Cosdon Hill has also been associated with rabbit warrening in the past.
