Geocache Description:

This is a virtual cache at the top of Black Hill.

The old name of the hill given by the 18th century Royal Engineer surveyors who first used the triangulation point. Surveying began from here in 1784 when a timber framework for a theodolite was used.

This was formerly the highest point in Cheshire but is now Derbyshire. The top is at a height of 582m/1908ft - check your GPSr.

The top is desolate, black (hence modern name) and usually very wet. It was when I set this v. cache.

To claim the cache e-mail me the serial number on the trig point and place a photo of the view when you post the find (this is now required). I will delete logs that fail to include a photo or send the requested information.

Important: Do not place a photo of the trig point number or mention it in the log - Thanks.
