Geocache Description:

After the success of the first , second and third Annual Gnome Games, this friendly competition between the good gnomes of different counties and countries are returning for another year. This year it will be bigger and better than ever, with many of the previous games, but also some new ones!

If you wish to book your camping you can do it by BAC’s email Irene at heypressto@btinternet.com and she will send you the details. The prices will be £10 per night or 3 nights for £25 Unfortunately there will be no EHU as we are on a rally field. The web page will be up and running shortly for you to view the rest of the merchandise Any coins/ tags/ polo shirts and hoodies can be ordered at any time and paid for through the same method and collected at the games when you arrive. This year the games are being held over a Bank Holiday weekend, and we encourage people to come for the three days. It is open to geocachers from all over the country (last year Devon & Scotland were represented) and we would also like to welcome those from abroad!

Location :
Shay’s Farm, Shay's Lane, Tarporley, Cheshire CW6 9EU
Day visitors for the games should park on our camping field at Shay’s Farm.

Date and Time :
Sunday 6th May 2018 from 12:00pm to 17:00pm

Teams :
After last years successful change to team colours, rather than being grouped by Wirral, Cheshire and Rest of the World, the same will occur this year. Attendees will be allocated to teams and issued with their “team colours” on arrival.

Format of Day :
The games will kick off with procession of the team flags, with each team being led by their respective captains. Kevin the Gnome (with his parents) may even have the honour of leading the procession, provided he doesn’t go missing again!

This will be followed by the various fun events. For some, each person may participate for their team and the best result will count for the team. For others, it may be necessary to hold heats to determine who represents their team in the final.

The games will include old favourites like snow shoe waddle, flower pot shuffle, wheelbarrow trundle, fairy ring sitting, balloon popping and skipping. The new games are being kept secret until the day! The games and the schedule may change depending on weather etc.

The afternoon will finish with the awards ceremony. There will be individual medals and an overall winning team will be awarded with The Ashes (the remains of the first Gnome King's pointy hat).

Fancy Dress (preferably with a gnome theme) is optional, but we encourage attendees to get in the spirit of the games and dress up. There will be prizes for the best child and adult.

Throughout the day there will be a variety of activities, both new and old for the children, including Geocaching Bingo, Ball tossing, Ladybugs & Bees and Stone Drawing.

As with all geocaching, you take full responsibility for your own safety. This event is a bit of fun and is not a serious competition (it’s for the gnomes which are of course serious but you are not a gnome so it can't be serious). You do not need to take part in the games to log an attend, just come along to watch the fun and enjoy the stalls.

Stalls :

The Gnome Games team will be selling its “Gnome Games Trackable Tags and Geocoins” and this years NEW “Gnome Games Geocoins”. Orders can be placed for personalised polo shirts, hoodies and fleeces.

Various geocaching companies and Mega event organising teams are being invited to come to this event and sell their merchandise. We will provide updates on who will be attending nearer the time. Other organisations and companies have also been invited to attend to make these games extra special.

Hot drinks, savoury snacks, biscuits and cakes and maybe even ice creams will be available on the day.

Camping & Accommodation :

We have been very lucky to secure Shay’s Farm’s rally field for this Bank Holiday weekend. This is where we camped last year and there was very positive feedback, so that's why we are keen to return. Additionally, the games are being held here in an adjacent area just a short walk from the camping field. Geo-dogs are of course welcome but should be kept on leads at all times as there are adjacent fields of crops.

Campers can use barbecues but they must be off the ground. Additionally, Shay’s Farm hope to have on site food like last year, alternating each week between a pizza van (Friday) and Fish and Chips (Saturdays). It is also hoped that the ice cream van will make regular visits to the site!

Bookings to camp on the rally field are being managed by the Gnome Games team, so please DO NOT CONTACT SHAY’S FARM. Cost is just £10 per pitch per night, or just £25 for the three nights Friday to Sunday. We can even accommodate early arrivals and anyone wanting to stay on a couple of extra days to enjoy the Cheshire countryside! Campers will be able to choose their own location in the rally field near their friends as there are no electric hook-up.

If anyone wants more luxurious camping at Shay’s Farm (eg with EHU), it is available, but NOT on our rally field. This must be booked directly with Shay’s Farm. Details are available at http://www.shaysfarm.co.uk/. Being a Bank Holiday weekend, bookings must be for a minimum of three nights.

For non-campers there is a variety of accommodation in the area. There are inns and farms offering B&B, holiday cottages and caravans, and slightly further afield travel lodges and hotels.

Geocaches & Social get togethers :

On the Friday evening the team will be going to the Shrewsbury Arms, just a 600m walk on a footpath, or a short drive away from Shay’s Farm.

It is planned to place some new geocaches in the area so that attendees can also explore the nearby countryside that the local gnomes call “home”. The following morning (Bank Holiday Monday), as in previous years, we plan to have a CITO event – watch for it going live. More details will be issued nearer the time.

When you register your "will attend", please indicate the number of members in your group, and the split between adults and children (under 15).
