Geocache Description:

Interested in both town and country caching? This is cache 1 of a group of 12 caches set by rosela in Wallingford with the final locations in a rural area a short drive away.

Information needed for calculating each cache’s final location needs to be collected in Wallingford town centre. All the physical caches are out of the centre of Wallingford (within 2miles of given coordinates) in a more rural setting affording great views of South Oxfordshire. They can be collected together in a walk of around 2.5-3 miles. As such, these caches are not suitable for cache and dash seekers.

Parking waypoints for Wallingford and a layby suitable for 2 (maybe 3) cars useful for collecting the caches are included on this cache page.

St Mary le More is in the centre of the town. St Mary le More existed by 1077, when the advowson belonged to St Alban's Abbey. The west tower was originally 12th century but its upper stages were rebuilt in a Perpendicular Gothic style in about 1653. The nave and aisle were built in the 13th and 14th century and the chancel was built somewhat later, but all were rebuilt in 1854 to designs by the Gothic Revival architect David Brandon. In the present building, the west window of the north aisle has stained glass made in 1856 by Thomas Willement. The pulpit was made in 1888 by the sculptor Onslow Ford. St Mary-le-More is a Grade II* listed building.

At the given co-ordinates please collate the following information: From the Walk About Wallingford sign, ABCD is the year the tower was destroyed by lightning.

A bench to remember David Calvin-Thomas is close to the sign, the dates are 1EFG - 1HJK

The cache can be found at N51 3C.(J-E)D(G-B) W001 0K.(F+G)(G-A)(C-D)

As a checksum, all digits in the coordinates add to 43
