Geocache Description:

The site of St Mary's church, Sticklepath, has been used as a place of worship since at least 1146. Originally there was a thatched chapel, which was replaced in 1875 with the building that is seen today after the old one was destroyed by a fire. The only remains of the old chapel is a fragment of stone, with red and blue colouring, which is now set into one of the recesses in the sanctuary. There are two window in the church that are were placed in memory of people. The east window, representing the crucifix, was the first of these and it was erected in 1871 in memory of George Henry and Mary Jackson. The west window was erected in 1913 by John Cook in memory of his parents John and Mary Cook who died in 1852 and 1882 respectively.

The church is open daily for those wishing to spend some quiet time or simply to learn more about this unique place, and I highly recommend that you have a look inside.
