Le Mardi 22 août a eu lieu l'inauguration du mémorial canadien de la cote 70 qui marque une bataille de la Première Guerre mondiale qui oppose le 1er corps britannique (6e et 46e divisions) et le corps canadien commandé par le général Arthur Currie à 5 divisions de la VIe armée allemande. Cette bataille se déroule à proximité de la ville de Lens dans le Pas-de-Calais en France, du 15 août 1917 au 25 août 1917.
Là, le corps expéditionnaire n’a pas gravi une crête, mais une simple cote qui vit tomber avec bravoure 9 000 soldats.
La fondation canadienne Hill 70 a décidé de commémorer comme il se doit cette « bataille oubliée ». Elle a fait construire un mémorial composé d’un amphithéâtre et d’un obélisque, impressionnants tous deux, sur l’ancien terril du 15.
Pour accompagner le mémorial canadien, l'idée d’un ARBRE DE LA MEMOIRE s'est dessinée (Association Mosahic), avec 1 056 plaques posées pour symboliser l’hommage aux 1 056 soldats tombés au premier jour de la bataille.

Pour valider la Cache, il vous faut loguer en y ajoutant OBLIGATOIREMENT une photo d'un bout de papier sur lequel est inscrit votre pseudo à côté de la plaque située sur la 10ème ligne, 2ième colonne sur l'arbre de la mémoire....Sans cela, vous aurez échoué dans votre mission...

On Tuesday, August 22, the 70th Canadian memorial marks the First World War battle between the 1st British Corps (6th and 46th divisions) and the Canadian Corps commanded by General Arthur Currie at 5 divisions of the German 6th Army. This battle takes place near the town of Lens in Pas-de-Calais in France, from August 15, 1917 to August 25, 1917.
There, the expeditionary force did not climb a ridge, but a single coast that saw bravely falling 9,000 soldiers.
The Hill70 Canadian Foundation has decided to commemorate this "forgotten battle" as it should. It has built a memorial consisting of an amphitheater and an obelisk, impressive both, on the old slag of 15.
