Geocache Description:

As this is a place that symbolizes the strength and fortitude of Americans as well New Yorkers I ask our fellow Cachers to be respectful of this sacred place that is honoring the people who have lost their lives here. We will never forget.

A tribute to the past and a place of hope for the future — the 9/11 Memorial Plaza is alive with twin spirits of remembrance & renewal. The 8-acre park is a supremely contemplative sanctuary, composed of a grove of nearly 400 white oak trees, and the largest manmade waterfalls in the United States. Set within the footprints of the original Twin Towers, each pool is approximately 1-acre in size. The names of every person who perished in the terror attacks of February 26, 1993 & September 11, 2001 are honored in bronze around the twin Memorial pools.

A Callery pear tree became known as the "Survivor Tree" after enduring the September 11, 2001 terror attacks at the World Trade Center. In October 2001, the tree was discovered at Ground Zero severely damaged, with snapped roots and burned and broken branches. The tree was removed from the rubble and placed in the care of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. After its recovery and rehabilitation, the tree was returned to the Memorial in 2010. New, smooth limbs extended from the gnarled stumps, creating a visible demarcation between the tree’s past and present. Today, the tree stands as a living reminder of resilience, survival and rebirth.

I have been an electrician in NYC for 25 years and have worked in the original Twin Towers before the attack and have helped in the rebuilding of the area for several years now. Myself and fellow cacher mbomber33 have personally helped in the building of the Occulus next door. Feel free to explore the area and the Memorial Museum which has a fee but is well worth the visit. Thank you for letting me honor our fallen brothers and sisters.

To claim the find for this virtual please email me with your answers and do not post them on the log as well as post photos of the answers on the log.

#1 THE COORDINATES WILL BRING YOU TO THE SITE BUT YOU WILL NEED TO FIND THE NAME OF ONE OF MY FALLEN UNION BROTHERS THAT LOST HIS LIFE WHILE WORKING HERE. GO TO SECTION N19 AND THE NAME AT THE BOTTOM LINE AND IS THE LAST ONE ON THE RIGHT. THAT IS THE NAME TO MESSAGE ME.

#2 FIND THE SURVIVOR TREE WHICH IS A WONDERFUL SYMBOL OF OUR FORTITUDE AND MESSAGE ME THE NUMBER ON A METAL OVAL SHAPED TAG WHICH IS ABOUT 7 FEET HIGH. KEEP CALM AND CACHE ON.

PLEASE NO ARMCHAIR GEOCACHING FOR THIS ONE. SELFIES AND PHOTOS OF THE LOCATION ARE WONDERFUL BUT THE ANSWERS WILL BE NEEDED OR YOUR LOG WILL BE DELETED.
