• Completed on March 31, 1889, the tower was the world’s tallest man-made structure for 41 years until the completion of the Chrysler Building in New York in 1930. •  During the German occupation, the tower's lift cables were cut, and the tower closed to the public. Nazi soldiers then attempted to attach a swastika to the top, but it was so large it blew away and had to be replaced with a smaller one. Pendant l'occupation allemande, les cables des ascenseurs de la tour ont été coupés, et la tour fermée au public. Les soldats nazi ont tentés de fixer une croix gamée en haut de la tour, mais elle était trop grande et n'a pas tenue à cause du vent. Elle a dû être remplacée par une plus petite.
•  In 1944, as the Allies approached Paris, Hitler ordered Dietrich von Choltitz, the military governor of Paris, to demolish the tower, along with other parts of the city. The general refused. On December 31, 1999 at midnight, the whole world discovers the lighthouse and the flicker of the Tower. The headlight, 2 light beams with a range of 80 kilometers, consists of 4 motorized headlights. Flickering is superimposed on golden lighting. Consisting of 20 000 bulbs (5 000 per face) it animates the monument 5 minutes at the beginning of each hour once the Tower is illuminated, until 1 am.To close the show, in high point, 1h At 1:10 am, the golden light goes out leaving room for the flicker. •  A number of aviators have flown an aircraft under the arches of the tower. In 1926 Leon Collet was killed after a failed attempt. Plusieurs aviateurs ont volés sous la tour Eiffel . En 1926 Leon Collet se tue après être passé sous les arches il percute une antenne.

  Le 4 février 1912, alors qu'il vient tout juste de rédiger son testament, le tailleur Franz Reichelt entreprend de sauter de la tour Eiffel avec un costume qui lui fera office de parachute. Dans la semaine, il a obtenu un permis du préfet de police pour tester son invention. Juste avant son saut, il se pavane sous l'œil des caméras et des appareils photo des journalistes présents pour l'occasion. Il se rend ensuite au premier étage, pour y effectuer son saut. Après une quarantaine de secondes d'hésitation, il s'élance dans le vide, puis semble se raviser – mais il est déjà trop tard. Il s'écrase lamentablement au pied de la tour, après une chute de cinq secondes.1912 - THE FALL OF THE MAN-BIRD On February 4, 1912, when he was just writing his will, the tailor Franz Reichelt set out to jump from the Eiffel Tower with a suit that would act as a parachute. In the week, he obtained a license from the police prefect to test his invention. Just before his jump, he struts under the eye of the cameras and cameras of the journalists present for the occasion. •  In 1905 a local newspaper organised a stair climbing championship at the tower. A M.Forestier won, taking three minutes and 12 seconds to reach the second level.
