Geocache Description:

We (tangoA&J) feel very humbled and honoured to have been given the opportunity to set a Virtual Geocache by GCHQ. We thank you for all the kind logs and Favourite points that gave us this recognition. As we are keen Church Micro finders, we thought a marriage between a Virtual and a Church Micro would be a match made in heaven….and where better place for such marriage as the stunning Lichfield Cathedral!

When visiting the Cathedral please keep in mind that there is no parking in the Cathedral Close (except a small number of spaces for Blue Badge holders) but there are plenty of pay and display car parks throughout the city only a short walk away. Although the questions do not require you to enter the Cathedral, please try to make the time to explore both inside and outside this quite fabulous place of worship! Lichfield Cathedral is a stunning and dramatic landmark known for its characteristic 3 spires and interestingly is the only medieval English Cathedral with 3 such spires. It is without doubt one of the most peaceful Cathedral settings in Britain. To learn more of this superb place please follow this link: https://www.lichfield-cathedral.org/about-us/history

To claim a find on this Virtual Cache (ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS AND STAGE 4 IS ESSENTIAL, NOT OPTIONAL) .

With the Mega in Uttoxeter this summer please be aware we will verify ALL finds claimed on the cache. Any false claim finds will be challenged and if necessary, deleted.

1. At Waypoint 1 (South East Side of the Cathedral), please find the large grey plaque to William ???????????, positioned on the Cathedral wall. This plaque has TWO dates on it. Please tell us what these dates are.

2. At Waypoint 2 (South East Side of the Cathedral), there is a weathered statue of Charles II. Please tell us the LAST word of the first line on the brass plaque at the bottom of the statue.

3. At Waypoint 3 (North West Side of the Cathedral) to the left hand side of the first BIG arched stained-glass window nearest to the front of the church ( NOT the first two rectangular windows), there is a very unusual symbol carved in to the stone approximately 6 feet from the floor. Please describe this symbol to us. (NB there is a spoiler picture of the window in question if you are unsure of the exact location).

4. ###ESSENTIAL###Please supply a photograph of yourself and/or your GPS at the front of the Cathedral as further proof of your visit, As per Virtual Cache logging requirements, faces are not necessary.

5. At Waypoint 5, there is a very unusual gargoyle UNDER Lydia. Please describe what type of creature you think this is: NOTE: No right or wrong, just your opinion.

Logs may be submitted before sending the above, but any log without the corresponding picture and message WILL be deleted. PLEASE DO NOT REVEAL ANY OF THE ANSWERS IN YOUR ONLINE LOG. TO DATE: ONE LOG REMOVED AS NO INFORMATION PROVIDED
