Am 20. Mai 2017 wurde der 40 Meter hohe Napoleonturm Hohenrain in Wäldi auf dem Seerücken im Thurgau feierlich eingeweiht. Doch schon 1829 stand nur etwa 100 m vom heutigen Standort entfernt der historische Napoleonturm „Belvédère“, der auf Initiative von Louis Napoléon, dem späteren Kaiser Napoléon III. von Frankreich, errichtet wurde, der zu dieser Zeit mit seiner Mutter, Königin Hortense, auf dem Schloss Arenenberg wohnte. Der spätere Kaiser Napoléon lebte in seinen Jugendjahren im Thurgau, sprach daher auch den Thurgauer Dialekt und war Ehrenbürger des Kantons Thurgau. 1848 wurde er Präsident der Französischen Republik, und 1852 liess er sich zum Kaiser von Frankreich ausrufen. Seine Witwe, Kaiserin Eugénie, vermachte das Schlossgut Arenenberg 1906 dem Kanton Thurgau.
On 20 May 2017, the 40 m high Napoleon tower of Hohenrain was officially inaugurated in Wäldi on the Seerücken in Thurgau. But already in 1829 the historical Napoleon tower "Belvédère" was founded on the initiative of Louis Napoléon, later Emperor Napoléon III. of France, who at that time lived with his mother, Queen Hortense, at the Arenenberg castle. The later Emperor Napoléon lived in Thurgau during his youthful years, so he also spoke the Thurgau dialect and was an honorary citizen of the canton of Thurgau. In 1848 he became President of the French Republic, and in 1852 he was proclaimed Emperor of France. His widow, Empress Eugénie, donated the Arenenberg estate to the canton of Thurgau in 1906.
1895 fand man hier Spuren von bronze- und hallstattzeitlichen Siedlungen wie Gefässreste und Keramikscherben. 1931 wurden erstmals Grabungen durchgeführt. Ab 1955 begann man mit dem Abbau von wertvollem Glimmersand. Der Rand der Sandgrube ist vom Turm aus gut zu erkennen.

In 1895, traces of bronze and hallstatt settlements such as vestiges and ceramic shards were found. In 1931 excavations took place for the first time. From 1955, valuable mica sand was also mined here. The edge of the sand pit can be seen from the tower.

Vom Turm aus hat man einen herrlichen Rundumblick über die Ostschweizer Alpen, den Bodensee und Untersee sowie über den Seerücken. Auf dem Weg nach oben finden sich verschiedene informative Hinweistafeln zu Geschichte, Politik und Wirtschaft in der Region.
From the tower you have a wonderful panoramic view over the Eastern Alps, the Lake Constance and the Untersee as well as over the Seerücken. On the way up you will find various informative signs of history, politics and business in the region.
