Der Leuchtturm von Bastorf steht auf dem 78,8 m ü. NHN hohen Bastorfer Signalberg oberhalb von
Kap Bukspitze, deshalb (nautisch korrekt) auch Buk genannt. Neben seiner Funktion als Orientierungsfeuer auf der westlichen Ostsee ist seine Hauptaufgabe die Warnung vor
„Hannibal“
einer Sandbank in der Einfahrt zur Wismarer Bucht (Warnfeuer).
Er ist mit nur 20,8 m Höhe einer der kleinsten deutschen Leuchttürme und trägt die internationale Ordnungsnummer C 1400. Damit trägt der 1878 erbaute Turm mit 95,3 m Feuerhöhe das höchste Leuchtfeuer eines deutschen Leuchtturms, noch vor dem Leuchtturm Dornbusch auf der Insel Hiddensee (95 m). An deutschen Küsten ist lediglich das Feuer der Anlage auf dem Maritim-Hotel Travemünde mit 114,7 Metern noch höher.

Hannibal warning Virtual!
The light house of Bastorf is situated on the Bastorfer Signalberg [literally spoken as signal hill of Bastorf]. This little hill has an altitude of 78,8 m above sea level. In respect of its location above Kap Bukspitze [Kap Bukspitze] it is also named Buk. Its international identification number is C1400. Built in 1878 with a height of 20,8m, it is the smallest light house of Germany, but thanks to its geographical position, it shows the highest bonfire[95,3m] of all light houses along German coasts. [in comparison: lighthouse Dornbusch of Hiddensee: 95m] Merely the bonfire of Travemünde [114,7m above sea level] excel in height, but this one is situated onto the roof of the Maritim Hotel. The light house of Bastorf serves two purposes: first, give orientation for seafaring the western part of the Baltic Sea and second (and this is the primary purpose) to red-flag the
Hannibal Sands
of Wismar Bay.
