Le NISSART (« niçois » dans la langue nissarde) est une langue qui a une longue tradition et qui est issue du latin par l’influence des romains. Le nissart (ou « niçard ») est un dialecte occitan utilisé dans le Pays Niçois (ancien Comté de Nice). Même si le français est la langue officielle depuis l’annexion de Nice à la France en 1860 (eh oui, même la Guadeloupe est française depuis bien plus longtemps que Nice…), le nissart reste une langue vivante , toujours parlée par plusieurs dizaines de milliers de personnes et à nouveau enseignée dans les écoles.
Mais le NISSART, c’est bien plus qu’une langue. C’est un art de vivre, une longue histoire , des traditions , des costumes , un hymne regional, une architecture exceptionnelle, un drapeau, une délicieuse cuisine locale, des jeux spécifiques (le Pilou et la Mourra), un coup de canon à midi, les "pointus", le carnaval, et – en cours de test – même une monnaie locale ! Sans compter le paysage, la mer et le soleil....
Cependant, quand on se promène dans Nice, il faut les chercher, ces détails relatifs au nissart, et il faut garder les yeux bien ouverts… Je voudrais donc vous mener à quelques endroits qui vous montrent soit des vestiges de la langue nissarde, soit des particularités niçoises.
Oui, pour valider cette cache virtuelle, il faudra visiter plusieurs endroits dans le Vieux Nice. C’est ce que tous les visiteurs font de toute façon, et par cette cache je voudrais vous faire découvrir quelques détails, souvent méconnus, que vous n’auriez peut-être pas remarqué sinon. Il n’y a pas d’ordre de la visite, vous pouvez vous promener dans Nice à votre guise et vous n’êtes pas obligé de visiter les différents endroits le même jour. N’hésitez pas à cliquer sur les liens pour obtenir plus d’information. Aussi, je vous recommande vivement la série « Vieux Nice » de Pouille, une série de multis qui vous montre d’avantage les secrets du Vieux Nice.
1) Plaque de rue bilingue. Vous l’avez sans doute remarqué, partout dans la Vielle Ville, les noms des rues sont affichés et en nissart et en français. Le panneau en face de la cathédrale n’est qu’un exemple parmi tant d’autres.

2) Menica Rondelly . Menica Rondelly est un écrivain et poète niçois et l’auteur de l’ hymne regional de Nice et du pays niçois, « Nissa la bella » (« Nice la belle »). Ici, on lui rend hommage.

3) Boulet de canon. Ce boulet de canon, suspendu à ce coin de rue, a été tiré par la flotte turque qui attaquait la ville en 1543. Un panneau en nissart rappelle ce moment historique.

4) L’héroïne. Son existence est parfois contestée, mais à Nice on veut bien y croire : Catarina Segurana , une « bugadiera » (ou lavandière) nissarde aurait tué un commandant turc pour lui arracher son drapeau pour ensuite le jeter à la mer. Selon certaines sources, elle aurait assommé plusieurs combattants turcs et ainsi contribué à mettre en déroute l'ennemi. Voici le monument dédié à notre « eroïna nissarda ».

5) Le poète. Joseph-Rosalinde Rancher était un écrivain niçois qui a composé des poèmes et des chansons en nissart. Aussi, il étudiait sa langue maternelle pour comparer la parenté des langues d'Oc. Sur la Tour Bellanda vous trouvez un de ses poèmes.

6) Blason. Le Comté de Nice (Countea de Nissa) est un ancien État de Savoie, créé en 1388, dans le cadre de la guerre de succession de Provence, par la Dédition de Nice à la Savoie. Son drapeau, un aigle rouge sur fond blanc, installé sur trois monts bordés par une mer stylisée, est toujours le drapeau/le blason officiel de la Ville de Nice. Levez les yeux pour trouver un aigle niçois sur le mur.

7) Système postal. À l'époque, les rues de Nice n’avaient pas de noms. Chaque bloc de maison
(« îlot ») était dédié à un saint. Pour trouver une adresse, il suffisait de trouver la représentation du saint en question, qui était présent sur tous les coins de l’ilot. Aujourd’hui, il en reste très peu de traces de ce système, mais ici vous pouvez en admirer un. Si cela vous intéresse, j’en a trouvé 4 en tout, je peux vous envoyer d’autres coordonnées par e-mail.

8) La monnaie. Entre le 13 et le 16 décembre 2017, vous pouviez échanger vous Euro 1 : 1 en monnaie locale nissarde qui – évidemment – s’appelle le Nissart. Le but est d’installer une monnaie locale complémentaire valable dans les commerces, restaurants, boutiques d'artisanat de Nice. Actuellement, c’est en période de test, la monnaie sera valable 1 an. (Je mettrai à jour ce descriptif en fonction des évènements à venir.) Dans ce magasin, le Nissart sera disponible et accepté. Nul besoin de rentrer dans le magasin, ni d’aller se procurer des Nissarts, il suffit de se rendre devant le magasin qui affiche « Aquì si paga en Nissarts » (« ici on paie en Nissart »), visible que quand c’est ouvert…

9) Le tram. L’artiste Ben - connu pour ses « écritures » - a réalisé le nom des 42 stations de la première ligne du tram de Nice. Aussi il a placé certaines de ses écritures en blanc sur noir sur toutes les stations. À la station Garibaldi, au coordonnées indiquées (direction Henri Sappia), vous trouvez une « écriture » en nissart qui me plait bien.

Attention. Pour valider votre trouvaille, il faut répondre à une question (waypoint « 9/W9 », réponse à m’envoyer par e-mail), et il faut prendre 8 photos (ou plus, si vous voulez, SAUF pour le waypoint « 9/W9 »). Pour les photos, svp veillez à ce que votre photo soit bien une « photo géocaching », c’est-à-dire une photo que vous avez prise pour valider cette cache virtuelle. Sur la photo, il faudra que votre GPS soit visible, ou alors un autre élément lié à vous et au géocaching (votre pseudo écrit sur votre main, votre TB qui vous suit partout, votre mascotte GC, votre logo GC sur un drapeau, ou autre - soyez créatif...). Evidemment, vous avez le droit d’être aussi sur la photo, mais c’est optionnel. Pas de log en equipe, une photo = un log. Je n’aime pas le faire, mais c’est hélas nécessaire : Tout log sans envoi d’e-mail/message et sans photos (ou avec des photos non valides) sera supprimé.

The NISSART dialect (“Nissart” means “from Nice” in nissart) is a language with a long tradition and which is derived from Latin by the influence of the Romans. The Nissart (or « Niçard ») is an Occitan dialect spoken in the area around the city of Nice, the former County of Nice. Even though French is the official language since the annexation of Nice to France in 1860 (yes, even the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe is part of France for longer than the city of Nice…), the Nissart remains a living language, still spoken by several dozens of thousands of people and again taught in schools.
But the NISSART is more than just a language. It is Nissartitude: a livestyle, a long history, local traditions and festivals, a delicious cuisine, specific games (such as Pilou and Mourra), the Nice midday cannon, traditional fishing boats called "pointu", the carnival, and - being tested - even a local currency ! Not to mention the landscape, the sea and the sun....
However, while walking down the streets of Nice, you have to look for these details related to the Nissartitude, and you have to keep your eyes open... So, I would like to take you to some places that show you either remains of the Nissart language, or specific characteristics from Nice.
Yes, to validate this virtual cache, it will be necessary to visit several places in old town of Nice. This is what all visitors do anyway, and by this cache I would like you to discover some details, often unknown, that you might not have noticed otherwise. There is no specific order for visiting the waypoints, you can walk through Nice at your convenience and you do not have to visit the different places within the same day. Feel free to click on the links for more information. Also, I highly recommend the series "Vieux Nice" by Pouille, a series of multi caches that shows you even more secrets of Old Nice.
1) Bilingual street sign. You probably noticed already, everywhere in the Old Nice, the names of the streets are written in Nissart and in French. The sign in front of the cathedral is just one example among many.

2) Menica Rondelly. Menica Rondelly was a writer and poet from Nice and the author of the (unofficial) regional anthem of Nice and the County of Nice, "Nissa la bella" (“Nice the Beautiful”). Here, we pay tribute to him.

3) Cannon ball. The cannon ball suspended on this corner was pulled by the Turkish fleet that attacked the city in 1543. A panel in Nissart recalls this historic moment.

4) Our heroïne. Her existence is sometimes disputed, but in Nice we want to believe in her: Catarina Segurana, a "bugadiera" (washerwomen) nissarde who is supposed having killed a Turkish commander to tear his flag and to then throw it into the sea. According to some sources, she would have knocked out several Turkish fighters and thus contributed to push back the enemy. Here is the monument dedicated to our "eroïna nissarda".

5) The poet. Joseph-Rosalinde Rancher was a writer from Nice who composed poems and songs in Nissart. Also, he studied his mother tongue to compare the kinship of Oc languages. On the Tour Bellanda (“Bellanda Tower”) you will find one of his poems.

6) Coat of arms. The County of Nice (Countea de Nissa) is an old state of Savoy, founded in 1388, as part of the War of Provence, by the Dedication of Nice to Savoy. The flag, a red eagle on a white background, installed on three mountains bordered by a stylized sea, is still the official flag / coat of arms of the City of Nice. Look up to find a Nice eagle on the wall.

7) Postal system. In the past, the streets of Nice did not have names. Each block of houses
("îlot" = “islet”) was dedicated to a saint. To find an address, people just needed to find the representation of the relevant saint who was present on all corners of the “îlot“. Today, there are very few traces of this system, but here you can admire one. If you are interested, I found 4 of them, I can send you further waypoint coordinates by e-mail.

8) The currency. From December 13 to 16, 2017, people could exchange 1 : 1 Euro to the local Nice currency which - obviously - is called NISSART. The goal is to install a complementary local currency valid in the stores, restaurants and artisan craft shops of Nice. Currently, the currency is in a test period, and will be valid for 1 year. (I will update this description based on upcoming events.) In this shop, the Nissart will be available and accepted. No need to enter the store, or to go get Nissarts, just go to the store that displays "Aquì si paga in Nissarts" ("here we pay in Nissart") visible only when it's open ...

9) The tram. The artiste Ben - known for his "writings" - created the nameplates of the 42 stations of the first line of the tram of Nice. Also, he placed some of his writings in white on black on all the stations. At Garibaldi station, at the indicated coordinates (direction Henri Sappia), you will find a "writing" in Nissart that I like a lot.
⇒ Please send me an e-mail or a message through the message center with the text of this "writing" of Ben and propose me a translation (in French, English or German). Hint: the writings of Ben all look alike, it's just the text or the color which change. You are looking for an artwork similar to the background image of this cache.

To validate your find, you need to answer one question (waypoint "9 / W9", reply to be sent to me by e-mail), and you have to take 8 pictures (or more, if you want, EXCEPT for the waypoint "9 / W9 "). For all photos, please ensure that your photo is a "geocaching photo", which means a photo you have taken to validate this virtual cache. In the photo, it is required that your GPS is visible, or any another element related to you and geocaching (your nickname written on your hand, your TB which follows you everywhere, your GC mascot, your GC logo on a flag, or something else - be creative ...).
