[EN] The oldest public memorial in Helsinki is often missed even by locals. In Kaisaniemi Park, there is a small memorial stone surrounded by a steel fence. The fence is decorated with masonic square and compass symbol and symbols of artillery. There is no name on the tombstone, only a text written in swedish:
"As little as the world cares who lies here, God will nevertheless know his deeds and the wretched bless his memory."
A Swedish-born major Fredrik Granatenhjelm (1708-1784) lies buried there. Granatenhjelm served in the Finnish artillery brigade which was based in Suomenlinna Fortress and he later moved to the mainland Helsinki. Granatenhjelm is assumed to have been a member of freemasons, but it is possible that he was only posthumously made an honorary member. The memorial was erected by colonel Lars Jägerhorn in 1785.

[FI] Vapaamuurarin hauta
Kaisaniemen puistossa on helppo huomaamattaan ohittaa Helsingin vanhin julkinen muistomerkki. Pienellä kummulla sijaitsee pieni rauta-aidalla ympäröity hautakivi. Aidan koristeina on palavia pommeja ja kullanväriseksi maalattu vapaamuurarien tunnus, suorakulma ja harppi. Hautakivessä ei ole vainajan nimeä, vaan pelkästään ruotsinkielinen teksti:
"On yhdentekevää tietääkö maailma kuka tässä lepää. Jumala tuntee hänen tekonsa ja kurjat siunaavat hänen muistoaan."
Haudassa lepää ruotsalaissyntyinen majuri Fredrik Granatenhjelm (1708–1784), joka palveli Suomen tykistöprikaatissa Viaporin linnoituksessa ja muutti myöhemmin mantereen puolelle. Palavat pommit ovat Granatenhjelmin aselajin, tykistön, tunnus. Granatenhjelmin oletetaan kuuluneen vapaamuurareihin, mutta on mahdollista että hänet otettiin kunniajäseneksi postuumisti. Muistomerkin pystytti eversti Lars Jägerhorn vuonna 1785.
