Na ovom mostu su 28. juna 1914. tijekom svog posjeta Sarajevu, ubijeni nasljednik prijestolja Austro-Ugarske, nadvojvoda Franjo Ferdinand i njegova supruga Sofija Chotek, vojvotkinja od Hohenberga, od strane Gavrila Principa, pripadnika srpsko-nacionalističkog pokreta Mlada Bosna. Atentat srpske tajne organizacije "Crna ruka" u glavnom gradu Sarajevu pokrenuo je julsku krizu, što je konačno dovelo do Prvog svjetskog rata.

On this bridge on June 28, 1914, the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and his wife Sophie Chotek, Duchess of Hohenberg, during their visit to Sarajevo,
were murdered by Gavrilo Princip, a member of the Serb-nationalist movement Mlada Bosna. This assassination was planned by the Serbian secret society "Black Hand" and triggered
the July crisis in Bosnian capital Sarajevo, which eventually led to the First World War.

An dieser Brücke wurde am 28. Juni 1914 der Thronfolger Österreich-Ungarns, Erzherzog Franz Ferdinand, und seine Gemahlin Sophie Chotek, Herzogin von Hohenberg bei ihrem Besuch in Sarajevo von Gavrilo Princip, einem Mitglied der serbisch-nationalistischen Bewegung Mlada Bosna, ermordet. Das von der serbischen Geheimgesellschaft „Schwarze Hand“ geplante Attentat in der bosnischen Hauptstadt Sarajevo löste die Julikrise aus, die schließlich zum Ersten Weltkrieg führte.
