About Cefn Onn Halt

Cefn Onn Halt railway station was a halt on the Rhymney Line between Cardiff and Rhymney. The line opened in 1871. In 1911 Cefn Onn Park was laid out by Ernest Prosser, General Manager of the Taff Vale, Cardiff, and Rhymney Railway Companies. His intention was to create a woodland estate and house on the land. After his death in 1933, the estate was then inherited by a nephew, Donald S. Prosser, who sold it to Cardiff Council in 1944 and the station was opened soon after to provide passenger transport to the park.

Cefn Onn Halt was a request-only stop and was replaced in the 80s by Lisvane & Thornhill, a short distance to the south. Cefn Onn Halt closed on 27 September 1986.

The bridge connecting the two platforms was removed in 1999.

The cache itself is just off the path leading down to the east platform. The cache is near Cefn Onn Park but cannot be accessed directly, you will need to go back out to Cherry Orchard Road or out of the park to the north to cross the railway after it enters the tunnel.

Parking is available at the nearby Lisvane & Thornhill station or at Cefn Onn Park.
