De Burd
Het eiland De Burd ligt ten oosten van het dorp Grou. Ten noordwesten wordt het eiland begrensd door het Prinses Margrietkanaal, ten westen door het Pikmeer, ten zuiden door de Wijde Ee en ten oosten door de Graft.
De Burd is een eiland ten oosten van het dorp Grouw waarvan het gescheiden is door het Prinses Margrietkanaal.
Het eiland was oorspronkelijk nog wat groter, maar de aanleg van het Prinses Margriet Kanaal heeft het westelijke deel van het eiland "afgesneden". Hierop is nu camping Yn 'e Lyte gevestigd. Dit deel is inmiddels verbonden door een brug met het dorp Grou. De Burd is bereikbaar via veerpont De Burd die verkeer vanaf de campingzijde over het Prinses Margrietkanaal zet naar het eiland. De veerpont had door de jaren heen een belangrijke rol bij de instandhouding van de leefbaarheid op het eiland.
Het slotenpatroon op een groot deel van het eiland bestaat al sinds de 15e eeuw. Vanaf die tijd heeft het eiland altijd een agrarische functie gehad. In de twintigste eeuw is deze functie uitgebreid met de bouw van een groot aantal recreatiewoningen en het aanmeren van woonboten (vooral aan de zuid en westzijde). Aan het eind van de twintigste eeuw is een groot deel van de gronden van het eiland overgegaan naar het Fryske Gea, dat agrarisch beheer toestaat dat gericht is op de bescherming van weidevogels. Ondanks dit beheer neemt de weidevogelstand sinds de eeuwwisseling af.
Sinds 2006 maakt het gebied deel uit van het Nationaal Park De Alde Feanen.
In 2017 wordt het eiland geheel gerenoveerd.

The Burd The island of Burd is located east of the village of Grou. To the northwest, the island is bordered by the Princess Margriet Canal, west through the Pik Lake, south through the Wijde Ee and east through the Graft. The Burd is an island east of Grouw, separated by the Princess Margriet Canal. The island was originally a bit bigger, but the construction of the Princess Margriet Canal has "cut off" the western part of the island. This is where camping Yn 'e Lyte is located. This part is now connected by a bridge with the village of Grou. The Burd is accessible by ferry De Burd, which leads traffic from the campsite over the Princess Margriet Canal to the island. Over the years, the ferry has played an important role in maintaining the livelihood on the island. The lock pattern on much of the island has been in existence since the 15th century. From then on, the island has always had an agricultural function. In the twentieth century, this feature was expanded with the construction of a large number of recreational homes and mooring houseboats (especially on the south and west sides). By the end of the twentieth century, a large part of the islands of the island went to the Fryske Gea, which allows agricultural management aimed at protecting pasture birds. Despite this control, the grazing has decreased since the turn of the century. Since 2006, the area is part of the National Park De Alde Feanen. In 2017 the island is completely renovated.
