Geocache Description:

The coords at the top of this page will lead you to a fenced area of trees, within which, can be found the remains of the first St.Marys Church, Stoke Mandeville, which became disused sometime around 1900, and was later demolished after someone was killed playing here in the ruins. There is no need to climb the mounds in the middle, as they are formed from the ruins themselves, and I would be greatful if anyone visiting would respect this concecrated ground.

You must locate 4 gravestones or markers. These people really are forgotten souls, and will undoubtedly be delighted with your company. They could be located anywhere. Use these burial sites to gain numbers for the letters in red below...

Mary Poulton died Nov 1A 1860
Jeremiah Price died aged BC
Molly Webb died June D1 1832
Tabitha Fleet died aged E1 years

Once you have all the answers collected add them together (eg if your answers are 4,6,2 and 3 this would give you 15). Now return to the entrance gate with the sign attached which you should have come in through. Face it from inside the area, and turn 90° clockwise. Follow the obvious path for as many strides as your answer gave you and then search for your first treasure. Please use the hint if you find yourself struggling, thats what they are for!

When you find what you have been looking for you should notice a series of 13 printed numbers. Some are shown here but fill in the letter blanks to complete a final set of coords...

The picture to the left shows the church in 1905 soon after its closure. Many many years ago the area around this holy site was preserved by members of the local church community, but since then it has become overgrown and is very very rarely visited. The area is dark, damp & dense foliage resides. The picture becomes all the more appropriate once you reach the gate to the site, take it with you and it's almost like your stepping back in time.

To Complete the cache use the information you have gathered and goto:

Close by, is the 'Woolpack' Pub, which has also been around for many years. It serves great food and has a really nice garden (but was recently burnt down so is under reconstruction so you may wish to try the 'Bull' just down the road if you need to quench your thirst here). I spent a lot of time there with my parents when i was younger. Please respect the site and the cache by placing it back in the same way you found it. Any further pictures posted would be warmly apreciated. Most of all enjoy this bit of history that very few people know about, and make sure to take a copy of this page with you on your trails.
