Geocache Description:

10:00 PM till Midnight

Saturday October 21, 2017

This makes an even dozen occurrences of this public convergence of the Royal Order of the Sleepless Knights and we no longer make it hard to find the event. So no tricksiness this year, just come to the coordinates and that's where we will be. I do ask that you use the parking coordinates, as there is no good parking at the actual event site.

As usual, the event will not commence until nigh on to two hours before the Witching Hour, Saturday night. You may have noted that we are starting earlier than we used to, this is because half of you show up early anyway, so we might as well make it official. That is right, this event starts late and goes until the witching hour.

The vaunted history of The Loyal Royal Order of the Sleepless Knights.

The Royal Order of the Sleepless Knights are an ancient order dedicated to the preservation of honor, justice and property rights, sworn to defend capitalism and the free market economy from the thieves and vandals who roam the night. For many years I was apprenticed to a great defender of the faith, Sir Butch of Sutton, and on this very field on a cold October night in 1992 I was knighted and swore my oath to the order. Since then I have defended this territory, with my fellow knights, every 3rd weekend in October for over a quarter of a century. I have often been visited by both friend and foe during those lonely hours of the night as I watched and waited for the enemies of freedom to appear. To this date the knights have never lost a battle, though we suffered many indignities while defending the borders of our land.

Sharing the Night Watch...

Although, I have watched in secret solitude for many moons, I now share my watch with any true friends of geocaching who are crazy enough to drive way out in the country in the middle of the night. To be clear, there is no program that will be presented, there will be no comfy chairs and no good reason for you to get out of the bed and make this journey. However, if any choose to join me on the night watch, I will provide the promise of no Hot Cocoa but perhaps, a hay bale for your comfort. I will then regale you with tales of geocaching far and wide, and I will listen to your stories as well. If you have ever had any questions that you thought I might be able to answer I will be happy to try, though I make no guarantee as to the accuracy of my answers.

The bottom line...

I will be here all night and if you want to come by and spend some time talking about geocaching with me and anyone else who shows up, come on out. There are a couple of things you need to know if you want to join me.

There is no camping available in the area and I can't think of any hotels within 15 miles. It is often very cold in the middle of the night in October, sometimes it even snows, so dress warm. If it does snow or rain, there is nowhere to get in out of the weather, so plan accordingly.

This is not the Halloween event that Scoot and I put on every year. There is no secret "cool" thing that is going to happen at this event. As a matter of fact, I fully expect no one to attend, but I will be there nonetheless. I mean what kind of person would drive several miles out into the country, in the middle of what will most likely be a cold night, just to meet up with a monkeyman with delusions of grandeur and whoever else shows up. Doesn't sound like much fun to me, but I thought I would offer something for the insomniacs to do.

With all that said, I hope to see you there...
