O povoamento de Colombo, que faz parte da Região Metropolitana de Curitiba, teve início no ano de 1878 quando um grupo de colonos italianos, oriundos do municipio de Morretes, para ali se mudou, recebendo terras e um pequeno subsídio que o governo da província lhes ofereceu para iniciarem suas lavouras. Sua atividade econômica baseia-se nas indústrias extrativas de cal e calcário e na agricultura com a produção de hortifrutigranjeiros, com destaque para a uva. Entre seus aspectos turísticos, encontra-se a festa da Uva e do Vinho e suas grutas, como a de Bacaetava. Criado através do Decreto Estadual nº 11 de 8 de janeiro de 1890, e instalado em 56 de fevereiro do mesmo ano, foi desmembrado de Curitiba.


The settlement of Colombo, which is part of the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, began in 1878 when a group of Italian settlers from the municipality of Morretes moved there, receiving land and a small allowance from the provincial government.
