Fláajökull glacier is one of many glacier tongues flowing south from Vatnajokull glacier. There are several walking trails and rich birdlife area around Fláajökull glacier.
The area offers good conditions to witness the ever-changing state of the glacier that plays a central role in shaping the landscape. Fláajökull has retreated more than two kilometers (1 mile) over the last century.
Access to glacier tongues varies but Fláajökull is one of the more accessible ones. A glacier lagoon has formed at the tip of the glacier.
