Les falaises de la plage de Mesperleuc, hautes de 1,5 à 8 m, présentent des sédiments marins constituant une plage perchée éemienne
et des formations continentales (lœss weichselien et sables dunaires holocènes) qui témoignent des variations climatiques du Quaternaire :
climat tempéré à l’Eemien (il y a 120 000 ans) avec haut niveau marin,
puis climat périglaciaire au Weichsélien (à partir de 100 000 ans) avec bas niveau marin
et à nouveau climat tempéré à l’Holocène avec haut niveau marin depuis 8000 ans.
Sous la plage perchée, le granite est parcouru par de nombreuses diaclases qui facilitent l’infiltration de l’eau et l’altération.
Au pied de la falaise, la plage actuelle est un cordon littoral résultant de l’accumulation de sable, de blocs roulés et de galets ; ces derniers proviennent de l’érosion du soubassement granitique ainsi que de la plage perchée éémienne.
Lors de la dernière période interglaciaire (climat tempéré) le niveau relatif de la mer était alors plus élevé qu’actuellement. D’une part, le niveau général des mers était plus élevé, avec la fonte des glaces liée au réchauffement du climat à l’Eémien.

Under the perched beach, the granite is traversed by numerous diaclases which facilitate the infiltration of the water and the alteration.
At the foot of the cliff, the current beach is a coastline resulting from the accumulation of sand, rolled blocks and pebbles; The latter originate from the erosion of the granite bedrock as well as from the Emerald perched beach.
During the last interglacial period (temperate climate) the relative sea level was then higher than at present. On the one hand, the general level of the seas was higher, with the melting of the ice related to the warming of the climate in the Eemian.
