Maurice Gourlet est arrivé au Cateau en 1954, il a été directeur de l’école Matisse. Peintre amateur, il ne fait pas de la peinture un métier mais il y consacre une grande partie de sa vie. Il expose régulièrement ses toiles dans les galeries à Valenciennes et à Cambrai. Il produit une cinquantaine de toiles chaque année, pendant son activité et surtout pendant les trente années de sa retraite. Cette promenade se situe face à l’ancien quartier Seydoux.
Maurice Gourlet arrived in Le Cateau in 1954, he was the director of Matisse School. Amator painter, he did not want it to be his job but devoted a great part of his life to it. He regularly exhibited his paintings in the galleries of Valenciennes and Cambrai. He made nearly 50 paintings every year, while he was working and above all during the thirty years of this pension.
