Geocache Description:

Number 850 in a series of caches where a red telephone box is in close proximity to a post box. The only rules are that they have to be able to be photographed together, be not more than 100’ apart and the phone boxes have to be red.

This cache can be done as a drive by but there is plenty to see here if you have a little hunt around, and what Geocacher doesn't love a little hunt!

We've often timed our visits through Shap with teatime on the way home from visiting elsewhere in Cumbria as they have some pretty special fish and chips here (five children can't be wrong). Please enjoy this cache and dash and stay a little longer to appreciate the history of this small linear village.

Shap is an ancient place, although not much is left today, the Shap Stones were just as important as Stonehenge and a few can still be seen near the railway embankment and the field between Shap and Keld.

The 15th century tower of Shap Abbey still remains, though the Abbey itself dated back to the 12th Century.

Shap is famous for it's pink granite which is used for kerbstones and bulding frontages throughout Britain.

Thanks to http://www.shapcumbria.co.uk/ for teaching me a few things about this lovely peaceful place.
